Will Ferrell Praises Margot Robbie’s Barbie As An ‘Amazing Comment On Male Patriarchy’

As we all know, Barbie, the iconic fashion doll developed and manufactured by Mattel, has played a huge role in the childhood of many kids since its first launch, but more especially among young girls who want to dress up and play with their dolls. However, with Greta Gerwig set to direct Margot Robbie’s Barbie, we can be sure there ought to be significant and modern changes to the story.

Recently speaking, or rather, praising the upcoming Barbie movie, is Spirited star Will Ferrell. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, the acclaimed actor showers compliments for the ‘satirical’ Barbie movie. Check out his full comment below:

“It’s a loving homage to the brand and at the same time, couldn’t be more satirical. Just an amazing comment on male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie’s criticized and yet why every little girl still wants to play with Barbie. Boy, when I read it, I was like, ‘This is fantastic.’”

Plot details are still being kept under wraps for the Barbie movie, however, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, Sex Education and Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera and Michael Cera are reportedly casted in the upcoming movie.

Despite the highly anticipated live-action film, Margot Robbie admitted how ‘mortified’ and ‘humiliated’ she feels upon looking at the leaked set photos of her and co-star Ryan Gosling.

“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way. We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

Though the live-action came strikingly different across Will Ferrell vs. soon-to-be Barbie star Margot Robbie, it is questionable as to why the leading actress would feel ‘mortified’ towards starring in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie adaptation.

Margot Robbie’s live-action Barbie movie is set to be released on July 21, 2023. Meanwhile, Will Ferrell stars with Ryan Reynolds in Spirited, which was released in selected theaters on November 11.
