Warner Bros. Unveils First Look Image at Margot Robbie as Barbie

For the past few years, Margot Robbie has established herself as one of the top A-list actresses in Hollywood thanks to her various roles whether it's her Oscar-nominated performance as Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, or Harley Quinn in the DCEU films. Now, the actress is set to take on another iconic character and we finally have our preview of it.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the first look image at Margot Robbie as Barbie in the upcoming film based on the iconic fashion doll. You can see her behind the wheel in a pink convertible car while flashing a huge smile. Check out the photo below via the studio's official Twitter page:

The image spawned a lot of buzz on social media as it convinced a lot of people that Robbie is indeed the perfect choice to play the character that is making her live-action big-screen debut. It also added a lot of excitement to the people who have been looking forward to seeing the film as well as those who have been skeptical about the project before the image was released.

The film has been in the works for a long time with actresses such as Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway attached at one point before Robbie eventually took the role and attached as co-producer as well. Afterward, Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig signed on to direct and co-write the film with her partner and fellow Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach. Production is already underway in the United Kingdom.

Besides Robbie, the cast also includes Ryan Gosling (who is set to play Ken), Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emerald Fennell, Jamie Demetriou, and many more.

The plot details are still under wraps, but it is expected to subvert expectations as teased by Robbie in a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "Our goal is to be like, 'Whatever you're thinking, we're going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn't know you wanted.'"
