Greta Gerwig Promises Ryan Gosling Has ‘Many Extraordinary Looks’ As Ken In New Barbie Movie

Ken from Barbie is known to sport many great runway looks, not to mention his character appearance in Toy Story 3 as a villain who had a closet filled with model-worthy outfits to fit in front of Barbie. With the live-action Barbie, director Greta Gerwig promises that Ryan Gosling as Ken has ‘many extraordinary looks’ fans can anticipate once it comes on the big screen.

One of the ‘early looks’ we actually see of Ryan Gosling’s Ken is his light blonde hair with the complete orange-tanned body, wearing a rugged denim outfit from head-to-toe, as well as his own underwear brand with the name ‘KEN’ on its band — presenting the close-to-perfect ensemble to depict Barbie’s Ken.

“I’m thrilled. That is how I felt and how Margot felt and I’m thrilled that everyone shares that feeling. I really, I couldn’t say, but it’s a lot — it’s a lot, it’s a lot.”

With Gerwig steering the wheel for live-action Barbie, there is no question the Barbie film will empower the audience in a different light, as proven in her previous works, especially when it comes to reframing characters, and in this case, we may get to see a more nuanced version of Barbie in this live-action.

Barbie is set to premiere on July 21, 2023.
