Disney has been pretty busy working on a number of Disney+ TV shows and movies. One of those projects they are working hard on is the upcoming series called Secret Invasion.

The TV series will be based on the 2008 Marvel comic book on how the Skrulls invade the Earth after Galactus destroys their own planet. Throughout the years, these beings have kidnapped and impersonated politicians and superheroes as a way of taking over the planet. This leaves Earth unprepared for their attack. And now, it is up to SHIELD to defend the planet.

As of this writing, the Secret Invasion release date has not yet been announced. We have only been given a rough estimate on when we can expect the Marvel series to be released on Disney+.

It has been revealed that Secret Invasion has actually been in development since 2019. But because of delays brought about by the pandemic, Secret Invasion filming started in September 2021 and lasted until April 2022.

The release date of the TV series will depend on the timeline of other Marvel shows and movies. Some believe that Secret Invasion will be the prologue to The Marvels.

But ever since the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, announced that Secret Invasion will be available by Spring 2023.

As for the story, Secret Invasion story details are kept top secret by Marvel Studios. But so far, we know that it will be about the shapeshifting Skrulls who have secretly been infiltrating the planet and impersonating as politicians and other superheroes for years.

If the story in the comic book will be followed, Secret Invasion will be about the group's resistance to peacefully live amongst humans and will take over the planet. Led by their Queen, the group has abducted many citizens and superheroes to act as sleeper agents patiently waiting for a time to strike. In the comics, some of the people replaced by Skrulls include Hank Pym and Elektra.

But that's all we know for now.

Secret Invasion will bring back Samuel L. Jackson to reprise his beloved role as Nick Fury, a former SHIELD director, who we last saw in a post-credit clip of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fury is in a space station and working with Talos (played by Ben Mendelsohn), a shapeshifting alien.

The show will also bring back Cobie Smulders for her role as Fury's right-hand woman, Maria Hill.

Since the show has been confirmed, two major casting announcements have been made. The show has revealed that Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke will be joining the show. Their roles, however, have not been revealed.

Some speculate that Clarke will play the role of a well-trained and intelligent spy/Queen of Skrulls that goes by the name of Veranke. But leakster Daniel Richtman revealed that Clarke will be playing the role of Skrull, G'iah, on his Patreon account. Neither report has been confirmed by Marvel Studios.

The Secret Invasion cast has been revealed to include the following actors:

  • Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury)
  • Ben Mendelsohn (as Talos)
  • Cobie Smulders (as Maria Hill)
  • Martin Freeman (as Everett K. Ross)
  • Don Cheadle (as James "Rhodey" Rhodes/war Machine)
  • Olivia Colman
  • Emilia Clarke
  • Kingsley Ben-Adir
  • Killian Scott
  • Christopher McDonald
  • Carmen Ejogo
  • Dermot Mulroney (as US President Ritson)
