The date change was confirmed when Marvel released a poster on its official Instagram page, showcasing the Marvels.

The Marvels Release Date Was Previously Rescheduled

The Marvels was initially announced to premiere by July 2022 until the entire MCU slate was shuffled, which pushed its premiere back to February 17, 2023.

By April 2022, The Marvels swapped premiere dates with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to land on its current July premiere date.

Iman Vellani as Miss Marvel

The cast of The Marvels is led by some of the actors who played characters we already know and love, most notably from WandaVision and Ms. Marvel.

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers

Brie Larson will return to play Carol Danvers, also known as the titular Captain Marvel. We first met Larson when she played Captain Marvel in her 2019 Marvel debut.

We, later on, see more of Captain Marvel in other MCU movies like the Avengers: Endgame and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We also briefly saw her in the Disney+ original series, Ms. Marvel.

One Captain Marvel actor will not be returning though: McKenna Grace, who played the young Carol Danvers in the first Captain Marvel movie. The actor will not be reprising her role in the upcoming film, The Marvels.

Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau

Teyonah Parris will join the second Captain Marvel movie as the adult version of Monica Rambeau. Parris first joined the MCU in WandaVision, where she got her powers after forcing her way through the force field Wanda built around Westview.

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan

Iman Vellani will also join The Marvels after playing the main character, Kamala Khan, in the Disney+ original series Ms. Marvel when the series premiered on June 8, 2022.

The series was one of the most notable Disney+ releases yet, with Kamala Khan being the first-ever Muslim superhero to be a part of the MCU. Well, on November 10, she gets to play the superhero alongside her Avenger idol, Captain Marvel!

Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau

We still have no confirmation if Lashana Lynch, who played Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel, will return in The Marvels, but there is a high chance that she will be participating in the movie.

Maria is Monica’s mother and Carol Danver’s best friend. In WandaVision, we learn that she died during the snap, and Monica was not with her because she was turned to dust.

Aside from the members of The Marvels, there are other big stars joining the cast.

Zawe Ashton will play the main villain in the film as Dar-Benn, aka the new leader of the Kree race seeking revenge against Captain Marvel.

Park Seo-Joon, who is famous for his participation in the Oscar-winning Korean movie Parasite and the K-drama Itaewon Class, will also be making his MCU debut in The Marvels.

His MCU character is named Prince Yan, ruler of the planet Aladna, whose language relies on singing and making rhymes.

We also know that Samuel L Jackson will return to play Nick Fury, along with most of Kamala’s family, including Saagar Shaikh as brother Aamir, Zenobia Shroff as mother Muneeba, and Mohan Kapur as father Yusuf.

Upon the release of The Marvels' final trailer, we learned that Tessa Thompson is confirmed to be making her return as Valkyrie in the film.

Now, her history with Carol Danvers and the rest of the crew remains unclear but we can safely assume that the King of New Asgard and Captain Marvel developed quite a friendship after Avengers: Endgame.

Nia DaCosta helmed The Marvels. The film is based on the creations of Gene Colan and Roy Thomas.

As for the writers behind the screenplay for The Marvels, WandaVision's Megan McDonnell works alongside with film director DaCosta, Loki's Elissa Karasik, and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law's Zeb Wells.

The actors involved in the film are not saying much, so what we can do is deduce potential storylines based on the details from previous Marvel shows and movies, and what we saw in the trailer.

In the official trailer of the film, it seems the powers of Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Miss Marvel Kamala Khan are interconnected. Whenever one of them uses their powers, they switch places with another Marvel who is also using their powers.

Switching places causes complications in the lives and missions of the Marvels, and with a new enemy rising, they have to work together to protect all of the universes.

The Marvels Theories

The Marvels will most likely show Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan team up. We might also see Monica Rambeau join the Marvels since she gained superpowers thanks to the events in WandaVision, where we also learn that Carol and Monica may have to work through some rough patches.

We do not think Monica will turn into a villain because, in the comic books, Monica became Captain Marvel before Carol, so this may be the point of conflict between the two.

By the end of the Ms. Marvel series, we see a post-credit video showing Captain Marvel switching with Kamala in her bedroom, implying that a force connects Kamala and Carol. The movie may also address this connection and introduce how Monica may be linked to this force.

A less-entertained theory would be that the events from other Marvel movies will be coming into play, and this would make sense because of the shuffling that Marvel did before settling with the current premiere dates.

Some speculate that Secret Invasion, which focuses on the Skrulls, may also affect the storyline of The Marvels.

Meanwhile, here is the official synopsis for The Marvels:

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.
When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as 'The Marvels.'

The Marvels D23 Trailer

The Marvels released an exclusive trailer during the panel on D23 Expo 2022. The trailer showed an explosion of confusion where the three Marvels (Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan) learn to become a team. ComicBook gives the most concise description, so far.

Monica communicating with Fury in space, and then she's swapped with Kamala. Shows Carol in Kamala's room. Kamala's family. Now Monica and Carol are all in Kamala's house looking for Kamala, who seems to be in space with Goose after swapping with Carol. Kamala says "We're a team." Monica says "No." Carol says "We're not a team." Very cute. Beastie boys music."
