Quick recap on the Skrulls, in Captain Marvel, they are the race of shape-shifters who only wanted to have a new place to call home after the Kree destroyed theirs. In WandaVision, they made a brief appearance, and in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was hinted that Nick Fury himself was replaced by a Skrull.

In an interview with the Phase Zero podcast, Cobie Smulders who will reprise her role as Agent Maria Hill and right-hand woman of Nick Fury, shared that the Skrulls have been on Earth since they arrived in the 90s as seen in Captain Marvel.

Smulders revealed, "I mean when we think about the world that they're in, the Skrulls have been around since we saw them in Captain Marvel."

Smulders added, "They've been building in numbers. And are they good? Are they bad? We're gonna find out in the show. But there's certainly a lot of them and so it sort of turns into this, 'Can I trust you? Can I not trust you?' And it's really cool. It's certainly fraught with a lot of tension."

Marvel's Secret Invasion recently released a trailer during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con but it is yet to be released in public. The cast seen in the trailer includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and Olivia Colman in a mystery role.

Marvel's Secret Invasion is expected to follow the same storyline in the comics where the Skrulls planned a long-term and subversive invasion of Earth by replacing people with their kind who are shape-shifters which means that over the years, some heroes may have just been impostors.

Marvel's Secret Invasion is based on the comic book story of the same name by Leinil Francis Yu and Brian Michael Bendis. The television series is created by Kyle Bradstreet.

Marvel's Secret Invasion is slated for release in early 2023.
