Eternals: Who Lives, Who Dies?

With ten titular characters, it seems too much and would be too convenient of none of the dies or all of them lives. No good movie gets the attention of many without a great drama of losing of the bannering heroes. This was proven with Endgame being one of the most painful movies in the MCU. For Eternals, who is who?

It was quite a shocker to see that Ajak, the leader of the Eternals, the Prime Eternal, who communicates directly to Arishem, was revealed to be dead in the first half of the movie. As a result, she passed on the title of being the Prime Eternal to Sersi.

The death of Ajak made sure that each of them would come together as a family and later in the film, it was shown that Ikaris threw her off a cliff full of Deviants. The others did not take lightly what Ikaris did. As for the Deviants, Kro, the one that killed Ajak, got her ability to heal making the Deviants regenerate when hurt.

In a tragic scene in the Amazon, the lair of Druig, Gilgamesh faced his demise in the hands of Kro, the head of the Deviants when he defended Thena who was having an episode of Mad Wy’ry on the worst time possible. His life got sucked by Kro along with his capabilities of the power fist. He was later cremated and Thena threw his ashes to the river.

The new Prime Eternal, it was to Sersi whom Ajak passed her leadership. While others question the reason why Ajak would pass it to her instead of Ikaris, it was later revealed that Sersi is immensely powerful, just underestimated. Also, surely, Ajak knew that Sersi would have the most compassionate heart on the people of Earth as Ajak is not in favor of the rise of Tiamut at the expense of humanity.

Before the film ends, while with Dane Whitman, Sersi was summoned by Arishem, the judge, who revealed that Earth would be spared but he would have to put a judgment on them, on what they did to stop the birth of Tiamut, a Celestial, which only happens once over a millennium or so. She, along with Kingo and Phastos, was taken by Arishem before disappearing into thin air. She’s still alive but her location is unknown.

Even with the affliction of the Mad Wy’Ry, Thena remains to be one of the best warriors that the Eternals ever had. Also known as the Goddess of War, Thena gutted through every episode she had and Gilgamesh was a big part of that helping her remember. In the end, Thena went to space with Makkari and Druig to look for other Eternals on other planets.

The Eternal who could control minds, Druig had an entire self-sustaining village in the Amazon. He fought alongside Sersi in stopping the birth of Tiamut. When Ikaris attacked him for doing so, they thought he was dead but he even saved Sersi from Sprite who stabbed her. Later, he ventured into space with Makkari and Thena looking for other Eternals when they encountered Eros and Pip the Troll.

The fastest among all, Makkari was able to run across Earth in seconds to find where Tiamut is emerging: in the Indian Ocean. She remained in the Domo, the Eternals ship, and lived there for centuries as if the guard of their vehicle. She helped stop Tiamut’s birth and made sure Ikaris would not stop Sersi from doing so. She went to space with Druig and Thena.

Phastos

The craftsman who helped introduce various technologies to humanity, Phastos almost gave up on being an Eternal when World War II happened. When he found a family, his faith in humanity was restored and his husband was even supportive of him saving the Earth for their son to have somewhere to grow. The family man was able to create the Uni-Mind to stop the emergence. In the end, he was summoned by Arishem alongside Kingo and Sersi.

Kingo

Kingo is the Bollywood actor who proudly declares that he is one of the pillars of such industry. Indeed, he is, for generations. He shoots lasers with his hands, however, when it comes to the big fight, while he is in favor of letting the emergence happen, he walked away and did not support Ikaris because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone in the family. He was summoned by Arishem as well.

Sprite

Trapped in the body of an eleven-year-old girl, Sprite grew bitter in her appearance which brooded envy against Sersi. She is in love with Ikaris and sided with him when he wanted to pursue the emergence, even stabbing Sersi in the process. However, the compassionate Prime Eternal used the last of the cosmic energy she got from Tiamut to give Sprite the life of a human – with death in the end, something they never experienced at all. She was later sent to school by Sersi and Kingo.

Eternals: Who Lives, Who Dies? Ikaris.

Being the one most loyal to Arishem, Ikaris betrayed all the other Eternals by indirectly killing Ajak by pushing her off a cliff with Deviants waiting to devour her in the bottom, and by doing everything in his power to make sure that the emergence happens, even if that meant killing all the other Eternals in the process.

In the end, Ikaris failed and his love for Sersi prevailed that even if he had the chance to stop her, he didn’t, he can’t. He loves Sersi so much that he let her live even if that costs the emergence not coming to fruition. Ikaris flew into the sun, just like the myths of Icarus. However, it remains unknown whether he is dead or alive, and knowing the MCU, anything is possible for Ikaris.
