Eternals: What Happened to Ikaris in the End?

After the revelation that all of them were just robot-like constructs created by Arishem to ensure that the Emergence will be happening and that Tiamut would be born to create a new sun and form a new galaxy teeming with life, and with Earth being the cost of it, the Eternals were in confusion of what they would do with it. Some were in favor of letting the Emergence happen and some were not.

Ikaris was all in for letting the Emergence happen while Sersi, the love of his life, was not, as she fell in love with humanity as a whole. They got the team divided and when they learned that it was Ikaris who killed Ajak and fed her to the Deviants, they were torn. In Kingo’s words, “you do not turn on your family.”

Still, they remained divided with Kingo leaving since he is fine with the Emergence but he does not agree with Ikaris hurting the others just for the sake of letting it happen. Sprite, definitely in love with Ikaris, went with him. The others who remained were against it: Druig, Phastos, Makkari, Thena, and Sersi. With Ikaris being the strongest, they had to prepare to face him while stopping Tiamut from wrecking the Earth for his birth.

In the end, Sersi was able to stop Tiamut from emerging through Phatsos’ Uni-Mind and she, as the Prime Eternal, summoned all their consciousness while channeling the cosmic energy of the Celestial himself. Tiamut crystallized before even being born.

When Ikaris knew it was over, he looked back on how much he loved Sersi through the thousands of years. Realizing that he cannot hurt her, just like the legend of Icarus, he flew too close to the sun. As for Ikaris, he accepted defeat through that but his fate remains unknown. There was no death shown nor incarceration. In the MCU, anything is possible and he could still be alive.

See Ikaris in Eternals, now in theaters.
