Eternals: How Thanos' Snap Could Have Been Heroic

Thanos is the main villain we all hated through the Infinity Saga, we first see him in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers (2012) where he said he’s going to do it himself, referring to the collection of the stones. He sent out the Chitauri army in the Battle of New York when he gave Loki the scepter containing the Mind Stone. He collected the Infinity Stones in Infinity War. He succeeded with blipping half of the universe only to be defeated by the Avengers in Endgame.

Thanos is a third generation Eternal. Being the son of A’lars makes Thanos the cousin of Thena, daughter of Zuras. He has a Deviant Syndrome where those Eternals from Titan were affected by it making them like Deviants, explaining why he acts like that as well. It has been confirmed that he possesses the syndrome giving him heightened abilities and some difference in the physical form from other Eternals.

Who would have thought that his goal of eradicating half of the universe, that his mass genocide, could have been a heroic move?

In Eternals, it was revealed that when Thanos snapped half of the universe, he slowed the process of the Emergence. The Emergence is when a sleeping Celestial feeds off of the life and energy of the planet where he was planted to be born. For Earth, it is where Tiamut lies. Since the blip happened, Thanos’ snap could have saved the Earth from the Emergence as there would be not enough energy for Tiamut to be born.

Considering that Thanos is an Eternal himself, this could be known by the Mad Titan giving him enough motive to put a balance in the life of the universe. He could just be a genocidal creature but had the Avengers let it be, had the events not been the way it is, the Emergence could not have happened, the Eternals could not have been trimmed down to seven, and they could remain in silence on Earth.
