The final trailer of Eternals finally revealed the reason why they did not interfere with the threat of Thanos in the Infinity Saga but as per Ajak, the snap that brought everyone back to life gave the Emergence the necessary energy to start, and they only have seven days to sort it out. What is this and why is it considered a new apocalypse?

What is the Emergence, the New Apocalypse in Marvel's Eternals?

In the final trailer, Ajak was explaining to Ikaris that five years before, Thanos snapped half of the universe's population and when the Avengers made an effort to save all those who have been blipped, everyone got back in just a snap of a finger, Hulk's. However, while it has been a success bringing half of the population back, the necessary energy that the Emergence needed to commence was provided as well.

Now, the Eternals would have to step in and intervene as Ajak said they only have seven days to save the Earth. The whole concept of Emergence was not thoroughly discussed nor elaborated so people are left to speculate with the clues lying around in the final trailer. However, what is sure is that it is tantamount to a new apocalypse and it does not mean anything good at all.

There are two possible events that could be the Emergence that Ajak is pertaining to: the arrival of the Deviants which are the villains and rivals of the Eternals being their offshoot, or the coming of the Celestials, the ancient cosmic race responsible for the creation of both Eternals and Deviants. Either way, both are scary enough to have the Eternals make a move after 7,000 years on Earth.

The final trailer also showed Kro, the leader of the Deviants, and he got Thena entangled, seemingly under his trance, while he tells her they cannot protect any of the people. We also see various Deviants fight with the Eternals in different scenes.

However, what makes it interesting is that according to Sersi, the non-interference of the Eternals for whatever happens on Earth is sanctioned by the Celestials. This race has been long believed to be extinct, with a few mentions in previous MCU films like Knowhere, a dead Celestial's head now considered as a place, Eson the Searcher who was mentioned by Taneleer Tivan, and Ego, the father of Peter Quill who was defeated in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Could it be that the Emergence is the return of the Celestials? In the comics, Celestials are judgers of planets following the Hosts, a series of tests, and it is possible that if they come back to Earth, they would now make a judgment on whether the planet would face an apocalypse or not. The trailer showed that a disaster is about to happen, could that be it?

Eternals is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 5, 2021.
