Rogue One Writer Reveals His Unused Pitch For Imperial-Hunting Star Wars Series

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta recently took to Twitter an unused pitch he had in mind for an Imperial-Hunting Star Wars series that would have been connected to Rogue One as a bookend.

Whitta writes that although he and his Rogue One co-writer Chris Weitz had a ‘cool idea’ for a TV show about a Mossad-style Rebel team Imperial-Hunting-themed show, they never got back on that. Check out Whitta’s tweet below:

Seeing as Rogue One is the first Star Wars movie to stand out because of its different, darker theme and tone, it was no question it received the go signal to create its own prequel story, Andor.

In fact, even Rogue One and now Andor star Diego Luna said he was eager to join the Star Wars universe due to its compelling storyline:

“Rogue One had an opportunity to be different, to have a different tone, to be acted by different people that you might not expect to see in the Star Wars universe, it was more violent, darker, and we got away with that. Audiences liked it, they liked it a lot, and that’s why we’re doing Andor.”

While we may have missed the opportunity to have experienced the Imperial-Hunting Star Wars series, there are no official announcements yet as to whether this pitched idea will not be pushed forward. There’s still hope, since Andor is the prequel to Rogue One rather than the other way around. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves in the near future.

Andor Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney Plus. Meanwhile, Andor Season 2 has officially started filming, so we can expect it to arrive soon in 2024.
