The Walt Disney Company is undergoing a major shakeup with the shocking return of former CEO Bob Iger who is once again assuming his position as the House of Mouse's main chief just two years after Bob Chapek was tasked to run the company.
As it stands, Chapek's sudden ousting from Disney remains a huge mystery to a lot of people but many are under the impression that his poor performance led to his firing. Now, a new report claims that Chapek was actually responsible for Star Wars' stagnant film slate.
According to a scoop from John Campea (via Star Wars Meg), the former Disney CEO was the direct reason for the franchise's movie drought. If you may recall, during Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Lucasfilm announced a slew of movie projects which would have kicked off in 2023. However, the last couple of months have seen movie projects get canned, including Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron and J.D. Dillard's mystery film.
To be fair, Star Wars did experience a bit of a resurgence within the Chapek regime post-sequel trilogy with the franchise solidifying its dominance on the streaming platform through shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Of course, we're unsure whether Star Wars will actually benefit from Iger's surprising return but it can't be denied that the franchise's movie slate was more cohesive when he was still in charge. However, fans have long been convinced that Iger was one of the main reasons why a number of Star Wars films under the Disney banner failed to click with the audience.
