Moon Knight Episode 6: Finale Recap

In Moon Knight Episode 6, Gods and Monsters, it starts with Harrow looking through the lifeless body of Marc for the ushabti of Ammit and Layla poses as one of Harrow’s guys to try and stop the resurrection of Ammit. However, when Harrow kills the soldiers at the border of Egypt, Taweret speaks through the dead to warn Layla not to take Harrow alone because that won’t be enough.

Taweret offers Layla to be her avatar but Layla dismisses the thought. Taweret says that Marc needs help to be able to come back to life and that Layla has to free Khonshu to give Marc a chance. The avatars of the other gods felt the presence of an impending resurrection but Harrow becomes unstoppable killing the avatars.

Harrow releases Ammit and she explains that Harrow’s scales are not balanced but she used to have an avatar with perfectly balanced scales, probably referring to Alexander the Great, and that only led to her imprisonment for two thousand years. Ammit tells Harrow that his death is delayed because of his service to her.

Meanwhile, Layla finds the ushabti of Khonshu and releases him. Since he cannot feel Marc’s life anymore, he even asked for Layla to be his avatar but Layla, again, turns down an offer of a god, citing Marc as her defense. Khonshu tries to stop Ammit from exiting the chamber of the gods but Ammit is too strong and without an avatar, Khonshu cannot stop her.

In the Field of Reeds, Marc sees how peaceful everything is and his heart is already full. Taweret tells him that such peace he feels is the one he never got in reality. However, Marc cannot dismiss the fact that he cannot enjoy peace without Steven and he goes back to the realm of the Duat even with the warning of Taweret that there is no turning back.

Once Marc finds Steven, he gives a full-on speech on how Steven was the light of his life and that he never gave up because he knows he is never alone. Before turning frozen in sand, Marc puts his full heart on Steven’s hand and a light shine on them as the gates open once again. They turn back and realize that they now have another shot in life. The Duat forms a huge wall to stop them but Taweret is there to stop it, even calling Osiris a softie, probably Osiris also felt the need of Marc to be alive.

Surprisingly, everyone, including Harrow, is on the ground and Marc asks whether it is Steven which the latter clearly denies. Layla is surprised and she asks Marc what happened. Before figuring it all out, they decide to take Harrow’s body to the chamber of the gods to start the binding process of Ammit to Harrow.

Layla and Marc hold hands and starts the chant forming a circle with the statutes of the other gods. Ammit gets into Harrow and when the process is over, Khonshu orders Marc to kill Harrow and Ammit once and for all. Layla intervenes, reminding Marc that he is now free and with a choice. Khonshu willingly releases Marc and Steven and they are back to the psychiatric facility where Marc and Steven converse with Dr. Harrow who walks leaving bloody footsteps. Marc fully accepts that he is the way he is and he wakes up on the same bed, still with his feet bound to the end of it, and sand on the floor untouched.

With Marc and Steven free, it seems that only those personalities have been freed by the god of the moon and as Khonshu introduced Jake Lockley in the post-credits scene, it only means that Marc is still bound to Khonshu but only when it is his third persona that is in control. See, Jake Lockley has been under the shadows for a long time that not even Marc nor Steven has an idea he exists.

While they both have a clue that there is someone inside of the same body finishing the job in a surprisingly brutal way, it also shows that Khonshu knows how truly broken Marc is given that he has a personality he does not even know of. This also points to the future of the titular character in the franchise given that he is still connected to Khonshu.
