After all the action that Moon Knight has brought with the first four runs of the show, the penultimate delivered with the drama, balancing the emotions in the canon series. With the finale finally arriving, here is everything you need to know about the show with a recap of the previous run, the release date, time, and countdown, and the theories, leaks, and spoilers for Episode 6.

What Happened in Moon Knight Episode 5?
In Moon Knight Episode 5, Asylum, the penultimate starts with a boy crying for help then changing into Marc’s mother blaming him then it shifts from where Episode 4 ended, with Marc and Steven screaming their heads off upon seeing Taweret who also screams in shock to Marc being calmed down by Harrow in his office and Harrow tells him that his mind is breaking through “sense and nonsense.”
Harrow further explains to him that his mind is comparable to a pendulum which swings between realities that he is a patient at the Putnam Medical Facility and a fantasy he created in his brain where he is a superhero and that he is doing everything in his power not to go back to the traumatic memories of his past.
When Marc continuously asks what is going on, Harrow explains to him that his mind is doing everything it can to cope with traumatic situations, one he called as the “organizing principle.” Harrow asks him about the Hippopotamus. Harrow brings up a boy asking for help and Marc explodes threatening to kill Harrow saying that he would release the monster, possibly referring to Ammit.
When injected by a sedative, Marc is back with Steven screaming in front of a screaming Taweret. Taweret asks if they are twins, confused on the two, and she clarified that they really died. Taweret brings out her cue cards to formally welcome them to what she called “the realm of the Duat,” and Steven quickly acknowledges that such is the Egyptian underworld.
As Steven introduces Taweret to Marc being their guide to the afterlife, Marc asks if that is it but Taweret explains that it is an afterlife, not “the afterlife,” where there are a lot of intersectional planes, even mentioning the Ancestral Plane in Black Panther. Taweret further revealed that the realm of Duat is what the mind comprehends it to look like, for them, Marc claims it’s because they are insane.
As Marc tries to prove his point that such place may be what Harrow coins as the organizing principle, Marc opens a random door that surprised him as he sees that they are in a ship in the underworld where they are on their way to the A’aru, the Field of Reeds, as Steven discussed to Marc, Taweret notes that Steven is the smart one.
Taweret then takes their hearts out to put it on the Scales of Justice opposite the Feather of Truth. Steven explains that the heart shows who a person is in real life and the scales must balance before the journey to A’aru ends to get through. Taweret says that if it wouldn’t one would be thrown away to the sands and be frozen in sand forever.
Marc proposes to Steven that they kill Taweret and hijack the ship. Steven realized that the balance is unstable and Taweret found out that it’s their hearts causing it saying that it isn’t full so she advises Marc and Steven back to the doors and show the truth to each other. Steven realizes that they have to move quick for Layla so he randomly chooses doors to access memories.
Unfortunately, Steven goes through a door upon hearing a child asking for help and they ended up in the cafeteria where Marc recognized as those he killed as the avatar of Khonshu. In the room are the unbalanced scales starting to stabilize and then a child appears out of nowhere so Steven followed him. Steven locks Marc out of a door and sees his childhood memories.
The kid turns out to be Marc’s brother and as the kids ask permission to play, Marc’s mother tells him to keep an eye on his brother. They played the characters of Tomb Buster and went into a cave then it started raining. Soon after, Steven realized that Marc’s brother died because of it and his mother blamed him for their loss, even avoiding him on his birthday.
Marc still tries to hide his horrible childhood to Steven where they see the memory of Marc going away then being brought to the moment where he became Khonshu’s avatar. Marc reveals that he became a mercenary but Bushman changed plans and killed the archaeologists, including Layla’s father. Marc and Steven see Marc under the statute of Khonshu where he was supposed to take his life.
There, Marc encounters Khonshu who manipulated him to be his avatar. Steven realizes that Khonshu manipulated Marc from the start but that is what saved them. They run back to Taweret who tells them that fear is taking over the underworld and it’s raining unbalanced souls judged before they even reach their time on Earth.
Marc and Steven know that this is Harrow’s doing, possibly resurrecting Ammit. They plead for Taweret’s help and she says that they’ll be back to a body with bullets in it. Steven asks Taweret to help them free Khonshu and Marc says it is the only way. Taweret reveals that Osiris would not like the idea but only through his gate could they be back to life.
Taweret steers back the boat and orders them to get their scales balanced. Marc tries to convince Steven that he will tell him everything just so they won’t go back to his memories. However, Marc explodes and goes back to the office of Harrow who convinced him to talk to Steven. Marc reveals how he created Steven to cope up with his mother’s beatings.
Marc explains to Steven that he created him with a normal life full of love, something he never had. As Steven realizes it, he goes to Harrow’s office. Steven recognizes the place right away. Harrow reveals to him that Steven was the one who took them to the psychiatric facility after Marc’s mother passed away. Steven acknowledges the fact and it is shown that he did not attend the Shiva.
Such moment is where Steven and Marc personalities coincided more often. Steven, proving to be the good side of Marc all these years, convinces him that what happened was not his fault and he was just a kid back then. They get interrupted as they reach the gates of Osiris and just when they thought they could pass, the scales did not balance at all.
Marc and Steven face the ghosts of Marc’s past, those he killed in his missions and as Steven sees that Marc is being overpowered, he finally embraces the rage within him and fought the unbalanced souls on his own. Just when they assumed it ends there, one drags Marc but Steven jumps to it, leaving him on the sands. Even with Marc’s efforts to make Steven run, he gets consumed by the sands and becomes frozen.
Then, the scales finally balanced. Marc awakes at the field of reeds carrying with him the pain of losing Steven.

Moon Knight Finale Episode 6 Spoilers, Theories, and Leaks
First things first, will Steven be back? As explained by Taweret, once taken by the unbalanced souls of the Duat, those frozen in sand will forever remain there. It seems that it is finally a goodbye to Steven and even Marc carries the same pain all of us is feeling right now. Steven turns out the be Marc’s vision for himself, one with a normal life full of love. He’s the good side of Marc from the start.
With his loss, this could make Marc more determined to stop Harrow and Ammit, bring Khonshu back to life, and maybe, just maybe, he could bring back Steven. With the plans of Harrow coming to life, surely, the Ennead council is expected to be back and hopefully, they would realize that they should have listened to Khonshu in the first place.
Episode 6 is expected to see Marc coming back to life and stopping harrow once and for all and given that there are still scenes from the various teasers that are yet to appear in the series where he dons the Moon Knight suit, it only implies that Khonshu will be back in his life.

Disney+ exclusively streams Moon Knight along with all the other Marvel series released or upcoming as announced for the Phase Four of the MCU.
