Moon Knight Episode 2: Who is Layla?

In Moon Knight Episode 2, Summon the Suit, Layla finally makes her official MCU debut as May Calamawy portrays the wife of Marc Spector and facing Steven Grant just gave her a whole lot of questions instead of answers. From her voice on the phone worried sick about Marc, she stumbles upon a panicking Steven Grant crouched on the side of the road outside the storage facility.

See, Layla El-Faouly is Marc Spector’s wife, the one he had adventures with to look for the scarab. No matter how many times Steven tries to tell her that he is not Marc, she did not buy any of what he was saying and she kept ordering him to drop the act, even annoyed with his British accent. Only after she pulls out the divorce papers did she realize that Steven may really be telling the truth because he is clearly baffled with everything happening around him.

While she seems like a new character, there is a character in the comics that could have been the inspiration for her, sharing the same name, as well. In the comics, Layla Miller is the blonde that has an “M” scar on her eye. From the House of M, Layla Miller is one of those who got the effects of Wanda Maximoff warping reality to have some kind of mutant utopia.

Layla Miller has the ability to perceive different realities and with her help, she was able to give back the memories of Wolverine, Emma Frost, Luke Cage, and more. She became a pivotal character that Doctor Strange used to stop Wanda’s alteration of reality. When Wanda returned everything to normal, Layla lost this ability to perceive different realities but gained the powers of healing, reanimation, and being able to connect with the souls of those who passed away.

Whether Layla Miller and Layla El-Faouly is the same remains in the future but with the nearing addition of the X-Men into the MCU and with Wanda’s story closely related to theirs, the House of M event is not impossible to happen in the franchise. After all, it is one of the most iconic moments for the Scarlet Witch and the mutants.
