DCU Studios Restructuring Is ‘Creating A Riot’ Among Partner Creators

James Gunn may have addressed fan concerns on his restructuring DCU plans, but as of now, partner talent representatives and content creators continue to grow in fear of their uncertain future in the studios. For context, Gunn has canceled Wonder Woman 3, no plans on making a Black Adam sequel, as well as Man of Steel, despite Henry Cavill’s soft return to the franchise. Even Jason Momoa is reportedly stepping down from his Aquaman role to rejoin DCU as Lobo, instead.

According to partner creators, who anonymously spoke with Deadline, “This is creating a riot, and it’s a horrible optic. This business is based on relationships.”

Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran became the new chiefs of DCU Studios, the creatives revealed they had been kept in the dark on their plans for the future of DCU. While Gunn previously mentioned his plan on reshaping the DCU, it’s normal for the partner creators to feel anxious, seeing as this would not only waste time and money, but quite possibly, the future of this ‘transitional phase’ to not be taken action on at all.

Previously, Gunn has taken to Twitter his statement amid this ‘riot’, by attempting to reassure co-workers and fans alike on the sudden change of plans.

“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.”

While it is good to see Gunn address the issue directly to the public audience, hopefully, this would also assure his partner creators, as well. It looks like we’re going to have to wait a while for Gunn and Safran to make their next move.

For now, DCU films slated for release in 2023 are as follows: Shazam! The Fury of Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
