Man of Steel 2 Receives Discouraging Update

When Henry Cavill made his return as Superman in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, it was also reported that Warner Bros. is developing the much-awaited sequel to Man of Steel which made a lot of fans excited at that time as it is a sign that the actor is back on the cape for good.

However, you may want to hold your breath first as it sounds like the project is not yet guaranteed to move forward according to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter regarding the current state of the DCU franchise.

The report revealed that the fate of Man of Steel 2 is currently up in the air as DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are still formulating their plans for the future of the DCU franchise and figuring out what they will do with the character.

Prior to the recent setback on the project, Warner Bros. was actively developing a sequel with The Flash director Andy Muschietti even expressing his interest in potentially helming the film and pitched an idea of going back to a more hopeful tone like the Richard Donner films. But that was before Gunn and Safran came in and took over the DC property.

In addition, they also reported that Cavill also filmed a cameo scene in The Flash although it is unknown yet whether it will end up being included in the final cut of the film as the studio is still figuring out whether they should keep it or not.

As a result, Cavill's next step in the DCU remains unknown following his Black Adam appearance. While he did confirm that he is officially back as Superman, it sounds like it's really not official at this point as Gunn and Safran are figuring out what they'll do with the character and whether they'll actually let him continue the role.

This is certainly disappointing for a lot of fans who were hoping that Cavill's recent return will lead to a continuous stay in the franchise once again. For now, all we can do is wait and see what Gunn and Safran exactly have in store for the Man of Steel and if Cavill will remain in the role as promised by his Black Adam cameo.
