Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed a lot of massive details about the current state of the DCU franchise under the new regime of James Gunn and Peter Safran which includes the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and the potential shelving of Black Adam and Man of Steel sequel plans.
Some fans have expressed concerns about the massive change that is set to happen in the DCU franchise now that the duo is currently figuring out their new plan and the report hints that there will be a lot of rectifying about the projects that are currently in the works.
Today, James Gunn publicly addressed the report on Twitter where he clarified that some of them are true, some of them are false, and some of them are not being finalized yet.
"So. As for the story yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not," he wrote. "Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning."
Gunn also assured fans that they are working hard on making sure that their plan will satisfy fans, but also noted that the transitional period will not appease everyone.
"Peter & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming," he continued.
"But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not."
Gunn also added, "We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives."
The co-head of DC Studios ended his statement by asking fans for their patience to wait a little longer for more definitive updates about their plans for the franchise.
"As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer," Gunn concluded.
While the latest news about the DCU has been concerning and even disappointing for some fans, it is great to see Gunn address his fans directly and assure them of the truth and whatnot regarding the report. For now, all we can really do is wait for an official statement from them once they are ready to unveil their plan publicly.
