It goes without saying that James Gunn's unceremonious firing from Marvel Studios in 2018 ended up becoming a major blessing in disguise for Warner Bros. While his first two outings in the DC Universe weren't exactly box office hits, the director was able to replicate the same formula that made his MCU tenure a success.

Now, he is being rewarded with an executive position that will see him and producer Peter Safran become the recently rebranded DC Universe's versions of Kevin Feige. Excitement aside, some folks can't help but cast doubt about his future in filmmaking. Of course, being given a hefty role as co-head of DC Studios, one would think that he'll shift his focus to his new designation.

Well, that doesn't seem to be the case. Taking to social media, the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad filmmaker addressed the fans' concerns about his directorial future. When Twitter user @donramon___ pointed out that Gunn's new executive position in DC Studios meant he's no longer directing films, he clarified his dual status and responded: "It doesn’t mean that". It'll be interesting to see how Gunn can juggle two jobs under the WB Discovery banner but thankfully, he has a partner-in-crime in Safran who will help him in overseeing things at DC Studios. As it stands, we're still being kept in the dark about his future projects with only Peacemaker Season 2 being greenlit so far.

Meanwhile, Gunn's final MCU flick Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
