Stranger Things (2016) made some pretty big waves when it first premiered on Netflix back in 2016 (it's hard to believe the show is already six years old).
The nostalgia-fuelled, '80s-set sci-fi horror/thriller became an instant classic, and Season 4 is already almost upon us, with a release date of May 27, 2022.
The show follows a group of children in the sleepy town of Hawkins in the '80s when sinister events begin to transpire which will change their lives forever.
Calling upon many movies that inspired it, Stranger Things feels like a melting pot of all your favorite '80s franchises, whether sci-fi or supernatural in nature.
The show is dripping with references to Star Wars and Goonies, but Season 1 uses the popular board game Dungeons & Dragons as its main reference point.
The first season centers around a government conspiracy involving telekinesis, and the portal to a parallel dimension known as the "Upside Down".

This dark, inverted version of Hawkins is home to a terrifying creature known as the Demogorgon, but that's just one of its many secrets.
Telekinetic young female "Eleven" has escaped the town's government facility and ends up befriending Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas.
Soon, the group of kids become plunged into a world of missing children, government conspiracies, hell dimensions, and monsters.

Season 2 ventures more into Alien and Predator territory, featuring versions of the Demogorgon that feel far more like xenomorphs than they do in Season 1.
Season 3, however, takes quite a bit of inspiration from Ghostbusters (it goes without saying that there's always something strange in this neighborhood).
In Season 3, a god-like creature emerges from the Upside Down and possesses Will, who is still traumatized by his time in the dark dimension during Season 1.

You'll be glad to know that you can currently purchase the first three seasons of Stranger Things on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Although Netflix owns the rights to the show, unlike many Disney+ shows, Stranger Things has been made available for purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray.
This means that it's very likely Stranger Things 4 will follow suit, although you might have some time to wait before you can get your hands on a hard copy.
While DVD and Blu-Ray sales are dwindling, due to streaming services and the pandemic, it's good to know that you can still own a physical copy of the show.
And though the lockdown has also pushed digital sales over physical sales, clearly there's still some room in the market for physical copies.
Either way, the show is widely available for your viewing, but if you want to binge the first three seasons back to back, Netflix is the best place to do that.

The official synopsis of Stranger Things Season 4 reads:
It's been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier.
As you can see from the trailer, all the main characters are set to return, including Jim Hopper, who was seemingly killed at the end of Season 3, when sacrificing his life to save his friends.

However, you may not know that Stranger Things Season 4 is actually going to be released in two volumes. Volume 1 will be released on May 27, 2022, and Volume 2 will be released five weeks later on July 1, 2022.
