Just when Alien fans thought Romulus was enough after a long hiatus, FX has revealed another show that will bring the xenomorphs back to the small screen.
The first teaser for Alien: Earth has been released. It teases the arrival of one of cinema’s most iconic monsters to the third rock from the sun.
Alien: Earth Official Teaser
Alien: Earth is a series expected to be released sometime in 2025. Though the franchise has mostly taken place in futuristic space, this will be the first entry to actually bring the Xenos to Earth.
The official description for the series reads:
“When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”
The series comes from Noah Hawley, who is best known for his work on series like Legion and the Fargo TV series. Unlike Romulus, which could be treated like a direct sequel to the first Alien movie, Earth is said to be a prequel, taking place 30 years before the first movie's events.
What’s Alien: Earth Going to be About?
While it’s expected that the Xenomorphs will somehow find themselves on Earth and start causing all kinds of havoc, TV Line also reports that the story will be about the rise of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the ‘race between corporations to create new android life.’
Interestingly enough, the prequel Prometheus is also said to have taken place 30 years before the events of Alien, so Earth could have taken place around the same time as the movie. It won’t even be surprising if the android David appears on the show (that is, if the series can afford a Michael Fassbender appearance, even for just one episode).
What Happened to David’s Storyline?
Though Romulus does get a lot of praise, some longtime Alien fans have wondered about what the story will do with David. After all, he was considered to be one of the better characters in the Prometheus films, and his character was further explored in Alien: Covenant.
The last time fans saw David, he had managed to sneak himself into a ship along with some Xenomorph embryos, and it’s implied that his goal is to unleash them onto his creators—humanity.
Maybe there’s a chance that Alien: Earth would be picking up on that thread, and David would be behind the Xenomorphs arriving on Earth. It is odd that the Alien franchise has never really taken the story to the home planet of humans for as long as it's run.
Hopefully, this series from Hawley will salvage the David storyline if the movies are no longer interested in closing his arc for the big screen.
Alien: Earth is expected to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2025. Meanwhile, Alien: Romulus continues to be a smash hit in theatres.
