The first trailer for the upcoming two-part finale of the Netflix hit Stranger Things was unveiled last Tuesday. After its premiere on Netflix in 2016, Stranger Things instantly became a massive hit, following with two more seasons. Stranger Things takes place in the 1980s, and follows a group of high school friends in Hawkins, Indiana, as they find themselves entangled by mysterious government projects and supernatural forces.
After three years of anticipation, Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1 is finally coming this May, and we will see the fan-favorite Netflix series again. In addition to the good news, it was also announced last year that not only a finale is coming, but multiple spin-offs are currently in development as well. Last Tuesday, the first trailer for Season 4 was officially unveiled by Netflix, which teases the show's darkest theme to date, with a new terrifying villain.
In a new interview with IGN, Stranger Things 4 directors Ross and Matt Duffers discussed the new villain they're introducing to the final season, revealing the creature's name to be Vecna. While the Duffer Bros. didn't disclose any further details about the mysterious new villain, they revealed that Vecna is created using "90% practical" effects.
It's hard to distinguish yet how this new villain will challenge the Hawkins crew together with Eleven, but what is too obvious is that the creature is certainly terrifying. We also don't know yet why he is connected with the Hawkins crew, but as revealed in the recent trailer, Vecna said, "your suffering is almost at an end," which slightly hints at the villain's motivation.
Now that Vecna is confirmed to be the big bad, we can certainly expect a sinister villain in the finale of Stranger Things. Following the Demagorgan and the Mind Flyer, Vecna has big shoes to fill. While the trailer for Stranger Things Season 4 revealed some big battles to come with the upside-down, details about Vecna still remain undisclosed, aside from little hints that Vecna will be the last and biggest antagonist for the Hawkins crew.
