Spider-Verse 2: Miles & Spider-Gwen’s Potential Romance Teased By Producer

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be another dimension-hopping, web-slinging movie across the—yep, you guessed it—multiverse. While the sequel is set to introduce new multiversal heroes, Spider-Verse 2 will be focusing heavily on Miles and Gwen’s story. The producers tease about the potential romance sparking between them in this upcoming film.

Per The Direct, in an interview on Empire magazine, Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller reveal that Spider-Gwen’s story will unravel more in this sequel. Check out their full comments below:

“[Spider-Gwen] sure is [on her own journey]. The movie opens in Gwen’s world, and she has a lot of things going on. There’s a lot of her world in this movie.” Miller says.

“There’s tension between the romantic possibilities for her and Miles,” Lord adds, “and their desire to keep their friendship intact, and not to risk it. That’s a really interesting place for two characters to be, especially when they’re so young.”

It’s a given that romantic tension is set to bloom between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey. In fact, it was implied heavily in the First Look trailer when Gwen barges into Miles’ room, only to see that he had drawn her in one of his sketchbooks. While waiting for the film premiere, you can check out the first look teaser of Spider-Verse (Part One) below:

In the same interview, the producers continue to explain that Spider-Verse 2 is the continuation from the first Spider-Verse film, which will also continue to feature Miles in his coming-of-age journey as “he is going through different phases in his life.”

“Now he’s got confidence, but he’s starting to find out where his place in the world is, and he’s feeling ready for his next challenges. He wants to leave the nest. And [all of this] is playing it out on a big, multi-dimensional superhero scale.”

Shameik Moore will return as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacey, Jake Johnson will reprise his role as Peter B. Parker. Other actors part of Across the Spider-Verse are Issa Rae as Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) and Moon Knight’s Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man from 2099.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will be released on June 2, 2023.
