Ms. Marvel Episode 1 introduced Kamala Khan in such a colorful and quirky way with graphics fit for the teenage heroine who just got her powers after wearing a band passed down by her grandmother. The first ever Muslim Pakistani hero enters the franchise with everything cosmic.

However, things are not always rainbows and butterflies and as the director of Ms. Marvel, Adil El Arbi, teased during the global press conference of the show, the next episodes of the series will take a turn to the darker side, “Well, their episodes are gonna be a little bit darker. The stakes are gonna get higher.”

Throughout Episode 1, everything is just colorful, lively, and a breath of fresh air in the MCU as Kamala Khan is introduced alongside her environment. While life in school seems hard and she gets bullied, and at home, her parents are strict on her, Kamala finds ways to make her life vibrant through her imagination.

Kamala Khan never thought that her dreams would come true and that she’d be a superhero just like her idol, Captain Marvel. Her grandmother sent a box of jewelry which contains a band carefully wrapped in cloth and Kamala is immediately attracted to it that even if her mother tries to keep it away from her, she still gets the band and wears it.

During the AvengersCon cosplay event, being the clumsy teenager that she is, Kamala left the photon gloves Bruno made for her while changing into her costume. She wore the band from her grandmother as a personal touch to her suit and she never thought that moment would forever change her life as it gave her powers to emit light in whatever shape she prefers.

With the Department of Damage Control being interested in bringing Kamala in and with the titular hero, herself, continuing to find the balance between all the aspects of her life especially now that she becomes a superhero, it seems fitting for the next episodes to get darker and the stakes to get higher.
