The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding higher, further, and faster with the brand new superheroes!

MCUs Phase 4 is in full throttle, with Disney+ hosting many series that have only been recently released, such as Moon KnightHawkeye, WandaVision, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The latest title to join the lineup is Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel is the alter ego of Kamala Khan, a Muslim Pakistani-American teenager who resides in New Jersey. In the comic book, Kamala possesses latent Inhuman lineage that gets activated when exposed to the Terrigen Bomb. This device releases the Terrigen Mist to remove racial and genetic differences throughout the universe.

After being exposed to the Terrigen Mist, Kamala becomes a polymorph, being able to stretch her body in all ways.

Even before she was a superhero, Kamala was a big fan of Captain Marvel, and their encounters eventually led to Kamala earning the Ms. Marvel title.

Ms. Marvel initially appeared in comic books in January 1977. Now, in 2022, we will see its first adaptation for the screens, intended to be a Captain Marvel sequel. Here is everything we know about our next teenage superhero, Ms. Marvel.

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan

Ms. Marvel was released on June 8, 2022, on Disney+. The series had six episodes, with a new episode expected to come out every succeeding Wednesday after it premiers.

The release date of Ms. Marvel was about to coincide with other Disney+ shows, which would have forced the viewers to divide their time between the shows, but certain adjustments have been made to accommodate viewer preferences.

The Star Wars spin-off, Obi-Wan Kenobi, almost had episodes that overlapped with Ms. Marvel episodes. If this happened between the two shows, Ms. Marvel was relatively new, meaning it would have less viewership, thus, not maximizing its potential as a series.

It also seems that Ms. Marvel was strategically set to release between two of the biggest MCU movies this year - Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness premiered on May 6, and Thor: Love and Thunder will come out in movie theatres on July 8.

Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in both this series and in the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels. As the first Muslim superhero in the Marvel universe, Vellani explained that she didn't feel any pressure to talk about her religion at all, considering that this was a big step for the MCU franchise.

In a press event for the new Disney series, Vellani described how Kamala is a universal character. As a superhero fan in the Marvel universe, Kamala took inspiration from the earlier superheroes' fighting styles, mimicking their moves, especially that of Black Widow, ending up with a fighting style that seemed to pay tribute to Natasha Romanoff.

Ms. Marvel will also include Aramis KnightSaagar Shaikh, and Rish Shah. We may also see Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Matt Lintz, along with Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, and Azhar UsmanTravina Springer and Nimra Bucha will also join the cast.

Fans have hoped that Brie Larson may appear as Captain Marvel in the series since Ms. Marvel will be the introduction for The Marvels.

On the rooftop with her bestfriend

The Ms. Marvel series on Disney+ will tell the origin story of Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In one of her interviews, Ms. Marvel headwriter Bisha K. Ali mentioned that the series occurs a few years after Avengers: Endgame. Disney+ has released an official plot synopsis for the series, and it reads:

Marvel Studios' Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn't fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she's always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?

In the comic books, Kamala becomes a polymorph when exposed to the Terrigen Mist, enabling her to shapeshift at will. On the other hand, in MCU's Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan earns her power from an ancient mystical bracelet. The bracelets generate a purple energy aura that Kamala uses to create various useful items from fists, walkways, and shields.

Though this is a significant shift from the comic book that inspired the series, Feige assured fans that this was part of the plan to adapt Ms. Marvel to the MCU. He said in one interview:

We adapt the comics; it's not an exact translation. [Kamala] came about in a very specific time within the comic-book continuity. She is now coming into a very specific time within the MCU continuity. And those two things didn't match.

Kamala has special traits in comic books, like her connection to other versions of herself through space and time. We may have to wait to see if this connection remains and what other changes will be made for the MCU version.

Aside from the changes in her powers, we also see changes in the villain of the series. There have been reports that the ClanDestine will be the antagonist in MCUs Ms. Marvel. Who are the members of this clan, and what is their goal?

Ms. Marvel?

You can watch the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+ once it premiers on June 8, 2022, with new episodes coming out every Wednesday.

To pay tribute to the Pakistani origins of the superhero and as a gift to the Pakistani fans, Ms. Marvel will be available exclusively in cinemas in Pakistan. This is because the streaming channel is not yet available in the country. The first two episodes will premiere on June 16, while the third and fourth episodes will come out on June 30. The last two episodes will debut on July 14.

Ms. Marvel Performance

Since the series came out in Disney Plus in June, it has gained more than 160 professional reviews and scored an amazing 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. This score means that it is the highest-rated Marvel franchise to date when compared to other Marvel series and movies, making it one of the most successful projects so far.

Ms. Marvel is a milestone for the MCU as it slowly moves towards a more inclusive and diverse phase. With so much to look forward to, we will be keeping our eyes on Kamala as she journeys to find out who she is and what it means to be Ms. Marvel.
