Ms. Marvel Episode 1 debuted and showed how the titular hero got her powers. Dreaming of superheroes, the imaginative Kamala Khan gets the twist of her life when she receives a box of jewelry where a band is carefully wrapped in cloth. It is a package from her grandmother, does that mean she was a superhero, too?

Ms. Marvel Episode 1: Is Kamala Khan's Grandmother A Superhero, Too?
Ms. Marvel Episode 1 has a lot to unpack in introducing Kamala Khan and it perfectly did so as it is the one of the most comically accurate origins in the franchise, well, except her powers, of course. The environment, culture, heritage, and personality of Kamala Khan is seen in the episode. What makes it special is it also showed how she got her powers.
Arriving from school and Circle Q, Kamala throws herself to the couch to watch TV upside down when her mother arrives home as well. She drops a box in front of Kamala who immediately shifts her attention to it and opens it without a doubt. She asks whether it is from her grandmother to which her mother says yes.
Kamala sees jewelry in the box and her mother says that her grandmother sent those, as if passing it down to Kamala even when she is still alive. In the same box is a band that is carefully wrapped in red cloth and Kamala immediately gets drawn into it.

However, when her mother sees her holding it, she immediately asks Aamir, Kamala’s brother, to take the box to the attic and she shifts Kamala’s attention to wedding preparations. Kamala’s stubbornness prevails as later in Ms. Marvel Episode 1, she gets the band as her personal touch for her Captain Marvel costume that she wears at the AvengersCon.
That same band, when Kamala wears it, gives her a surge of energy through her that when triggered by lights, Kamala unexpectedly shoots light out uncontrollably, amazing all the attendees of the event and unfortunately causing trouble.
See, Kamala’s grandmother owns the band that gave her powers. Could it be that she was the first one to use it in the past and that Kamala’s mother knew about it? Earlier in Ms. Marvel Episode 1, her mother mentioned that her genetics are from a long-line of fantasizers, much like Kamala herself. Is her mother pertaining to Kamala’s grandmother?

The band is suspected to be nega bands from the Kree Empire. If her grandmother used to wear the band, she must have experienced the same thing Kamala had at the event. It suggests that she used to be a superhero, too, like what Kamala would be when wearing the band.
