Is Ms. Marvel Muslim?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to stay true to their promise of representation and diversification. They finally brought in Ms. Marvel into the picture with Kamala Khan, the first-ever Muslim Pakistani-American superhero to enter the franchise and her story speaks so much about her culture and heritage.

In one trailer, it was seen that her family is Muslim. In Ms. Marvel Episode 1, though there are no mentions of Kamala Khan or her family being Muslim, it was seen when her mother calls her downstairs to prepare for her driving test and her brother, Aamir, was seen praying.

As seen in the episode, Kamala Khan is struggling with how strict her parents are when it comes to going out. She asked their permission to go to the AvengersCon and they asked what she was wearing. When Kamala answered that she’ll be in a Captain Marvel costume, her mother immediately exclaims her disapproval with tight-fitting suits.

The following day, her mother told her that they will allow her only if her father would accompany her in a Hulk suit which has accents from her culture and heritage being Pakistani. However, Kamala immediately turned down the suggestion and planned to go on her own without asking her parents.

Her mother caught her, in the end, and she was given a lecture on how they raised her to be a good daughter and not one who sneaks out at night without permission. Kamala is really quite rebellious with her actions.

Yes, her parents are strict but it also showed how much they love and care for her, especially when she failed her driving test where they even argued with the instructor that it is not Kamala’s fault. They love their daughter so much that they don’t trust the people around her, with Bruno as an exception, of course.
