Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to be Harrison Ford's final film in the franchise. The Hollywood icon has been adamant that it is his last hurrah on donning the fedora and exploring the world for treasure hunting adventure.

A lot of fans have been wondering about whether Lucasfilm will continue the franchise in some capacity whether it's a reboot or spinoff. After all, there are a lot of stories that they can still explore in the Indiana Jones franchise without the character himself.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly (via The Direct), Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy iterated that Dial of Destiny is indeed going to be Ford's last movie. However, she also teased that the franchise might still continue in a TV series format.

"It’s Harrison’s last entry. That’s how we look at the Indy franchise. I mean, truthfully, right now, if we were to do anything, it might be in series television down the road, but we’re not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones," she said.

"This is it. There are five movies that Harrison Ford did. And Harrison is so specific and so unique to creating this role. We just, Steven [Spielberg] agrees, we just wouldn’t do that."

There are previous reports that claimed that Lucasfilm is already working on an Indiana Jones TV series with a young Abner Ravenwood as the focus of the story. However, the studio has not commented on it.

Given the appeal of the popularity of the Indiana Jones franchise, it's really not surprising to see that Lucasfilm is considering extending it to a TV series format or other mediums where they can explore more stories within its universe.

The Potential Future of Indiana Jones

While the studio might already be working on a TV series, it will all still depend on the success of Dial of Destiny since it will be an indicator of whether the general audience still has interest and appeal to the franchise, which has been running for four decades.

If the film ended up being a box office flop, the likely result is that Lucasfilm will shelve any plans to develop more Indiana Jones projects and they'll just focus on the Star Wars property, which is still their top brand.

We have seen just recently that Lucasfilm is willing to abandon one of its properties with the cancellation of the Willow TV series and its upcoming removal from Disney+.

For now, let's just wait and see how it will all unfold and we should be able to find out the future of the franchise very soon once the upcoming film is out to the public.
