Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ended on an emotional and poignant note as Harrison Ford's iconic character found himself resolving his marriage with Marion Ravenwood after going through a time-traveling adventure with his goddaughter Helena Shaw against the Nazis.

In addition, there was also a brief callback to a moment in Raiders of the Lost Ark where they showed that their relationship can still have an optimistic future in the aftermath of a tragedy.

The ending resolved the character's arc from the beginning where he was in a depressing state due to his falling out with his wife, reeling from the loss of his son Mutt, and contemplating his relevancy in a changing world.

The majority of the audience liked the ending based on the responses online and it also came as a surprise to some since there were expectations that the character will be killed off since director James Mangold did it with Wolverine in Logan.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Ford offered his thoughts about the ending of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny where he shared that he liked how things turned out at the end of his character's journey.

"I think it’s a good choice to leave him in the condition we see him at the end of the film. Most of his problems have been solved, dealt with. He’s back to the form that we like to see him in, I think. And I think it’s a wonderful last scene... I really like it," he said.

Fortunately, the Indiana Jones actor was in whole agreement with the last scene of the film which is important for him since he's been wanting to give his character a sendoff that he deserves.

While the final scene itself wasn't the usual type of conclusion that we see in an Indiana Jones movie, it was still a happy ending since we were able to see the character move on and not see him meet his death at all.

There is no doubt that a lot of fans are relieved that the character did not meet his demise on the screen, even if it almost happened to him during the climax.

James Mangold Assures Killing Off Indiana Jones Was Never an Option

In the same interview, Mangold revealed that killing off Indiana Jones was never an option when they were writing the film although he enjoyed seeing fans' concerns about it due to his previous work in Logan.

"Honestly, I enjoy that people were so atwitter about it, because to me, there really is no attraction to just getting thousands of people in a theater and hitting them in a head with a hammer... Death is not an ending," he said.

"The reason death worked in Logan is because of the beautiful irony of his death, which is that he lived such a painful life, that it was only in the last 30 seconds of his life that he actually got to experience love. And that to me was what was so moving about that ending."

As Mangold pointed out, Indiana Jones' sendoff did not need to end with a death and he certainly made a strong case for it with the final results that we saw on screen.

Unlike Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which fans felt wasn't a satisfying final movie for the character prior to this film, we were finally treated with a great conclusion for the character that the audience can agree with and officially close the Indiana Jones history book once and for all.
