One of the things people are looking forward to in the new movie is the return of Harrison Ford in this latest installment. True enough, the actor has been confirmed to reprise his iconic role.
Here's what we know about Indiana Jones 5.
What Is Indiana Jones 5 Going to Be Called?
The new Indiana Jones movie is entitled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Filming for the movie started last year. Steven Spielberg passed on the role of writing the script of the movie to Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and James Mangold. Mangold also acts as the director for this film.
When Will Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Be Released?
Back in February, Indiana Jones producer, Frank Marshall, confirmed that production for the film finally finished after numerous delays. This is because the film was supposed to get a cinematic release in July 2019. The date was then moved to July 10, 2020 and then to July 9, 2021.
And again, the movie's release date was pushed a third time to July 29, 2022. Apart from the COVID pandemic, Disney had to reshuffle the release date of its other films so Indiana Jones 5 was affected by this.
Finally, the release date has been announced and it looks like it'll be the definite date. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in cinemas on June 30, 2023. Its director, Mangold promises that the film will be worth it.
The director answered a tweet in 2021 from a user who was wary about the success of this new Indiana Jones film. Mangold wrote:
"I understand wariness, I live it. I don't know if I'll make you happy. But my team & I will knock ourselves out trying to make something good. We admire the craft of the originals. I hope when you see real images, they'll look better to you than paparazzi shots from bushes."
What Will Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Story Be About?
At this time, details about the plot of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny are scarce. Even the film's teaser video which was exclusively released at the D23 Expo didn't give out too many clues about the film's potential story.
But reports reveal that the main character could be battling against Nazis in this fifth film. It's unclear though if this is merely a flashback sequence or if they will be the antagonists in the film.
If the film follows the last Indiana Jones movie, it's possible that the movie will be set in the late 1960s. But there have been some hints that the movie will include time travel so it's a huge question mark at this point.
At the D23 event, Ford said:
"I'm very proud to say this one is fantastic. Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they're also about the heart. We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass."
Who Is Part of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Cast?
In case you're wondering, yes, Harrison Ford is returning to reprise his beloved character. Its producer, Kathy Kennedy, told Vanity Fair:
"We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there wasn't a day I wasn't on set where I wasn't like, 'Yes -- this is Indiana Jones'."
Following that statement, Ford said that no one can play the role apart from him.
"When I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy. Get it in [your head]."
But it's possible that this will be the last time Ford will be putting on his Indy hat. "This is it. I will not fall down for you again."
Apart from Ford, the other actors that will be in the new Indiana Jones film include:
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge (as Helena)
- Mads Mikkelsen (as Voller)
- Boyd Holbrook (as Klaber)
- Antonio Banderas
- Toby Jones
- John Rhys-Davies (as Sallah)
- Olivier Richters
- Thomas Kretschmann
- Shaunette Renée Wilson
