It is unusual to have the titular character face his demise in his own canon show, especially in the middle of the season. Episode 4 titledThe Nexus Event nearly gave us a heart attack especially towards the end where two of our favorite characters were pruned, leaving everyone hanging, and after that, it just makes us want to fast forward to Wednesday next week so we could all watch what happens next. So, did Loki really die?
In the last few minutes near the end of Loki Episode 4, Loki and Sylvie finally got the chance to face the Time-Keepers and it all happened just after Mobius got pruned for telling Renslayer that he wanted to go back to the time before he became a Time Variance Authority agent, his regular old life that maybe, he even had a jet ski hadn't he been taken by the TVA.
However, it was as if he knew what happens beyond pruning. He told Loki in the time loop prison that whatever it is that is bound to happen, they have got to trust each other. It was as if he was considering the worst-case scenario aka being pruned. It happened after Renslayer found out that he switched their TemPads.
Loki, definitely aggrieved and angered with what happened to Mobius, made sure that he won't back down from the Time-Keepers. Together with Sylvie who now has Hunter B-15 on her side after she showed her past life, they tried to take down the Time-Keepers only to find out that such were fake mindless androids.
Loki assured Sylvie that they will figure it all out together and he went on saying that he had just experienced something new, possibly confessing to Sylvie, when Renslayer pruned him before everyone's eyes. All the while, they both thought that she was knocked down but she still had some fight left in her. Sylvie, who just lost Loki, was angered and she's taking Renslayer hostage with all the information as regards the TVA.
Did Loki Really Die in Episode 4?
So, did he really die again? Everyone's broken hearts only lasted a few minutes as in the post-credits scene, Loki woke up in a wasteland asking if he was already dead or if he is in Hel. It turns out that all those who get pruned are merely teleported to some apocalyptic time and place. There, Loki meets four variants who are all versions of him, just in time to save him before really dying for real.
In Episode 5, Journey Into Mystery, it whas shown that Loki didn't really die. Actually, Lokis don't even die there at all. As Classic Loki have said, all they do is survive as if they were born for it, to the point that we get so see a group of Loki variants led by President Loki and various versions of him trying to betray one another.
By the end of Episode 5, Loki and Sylvie conquers the gargantuan guard which eliminates those in The Void and ensures the death of whatever it is that has been transported there. They enchanted it an opened what seems to be a door as to whoever is behind it.
