There is no doubt that Margot Robbie has proven herself to be very versatile when it comes to shaping up for her roles. Speaking to Dua Lipa on the podcast At Your Service, Gerwig shares she wasn’t confident about Margot Robbie’s Barbie live-action film, despite her impressive and growing career rooting from Lady Bird and Little Women. Check out Gerwig’s full comment below:

“It was terrifying. I think that was a big part of it. I think there’s something about starting from that place where it’s like, ‘Well, anything is possible!’ It felt like vertigo starting to write it. Like, where do you even begin? What would be the story? That feeling that I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror. Usually that’s where the best stuff is. When you’re like, ‘I am terrified of that.’ Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ended,’ then you’re like, ‘OK, I probably should do it.’”

Perhaps one of the things that put Greta Gerwig’s worries and concerns to rest was witnessing Margot Robbie’s “magical” talents on set firsthand. When the director told Robbie to act out at 48 frames instead of 24 per second, the actress took a second and delivered exactly what Gerwig was looking for (via Vanity Fair).

“Once, I wanted to capture Margot in slow motion but have everything else move fast, so I went up to her and said, ‘Could you move at 48 frames per second, even though we’re shooting at 24 frames per second and everyone else will be moving at regular speed?’ She did some calculation behind her eyes and then f-cking did it. She literally moved at a higher frame rate. I don’t know what category that goes into other than magic.”

Are you excited to see Margot Robbie’s Barbie? The film is set to premiere on July 21, 2023.
