Transformers: The Last Knight Plot Reportedly Revealed

Ever since Paramount Pictures announced the official title of the fifth Transformers movie, it was pretty much hinted already that the film will be taking on a rather medieval tone, which doesn't really surprise us anymore. At this point in the franchise, just about every storyline doesn't sound ridiculous any longer. Cars transforming into robots and taking over the world takes the cake already.

Well, just when you thought Transformers couldn't get any more bizarre, new information on Transformers: The Last Knight claims that the film apparently is related to the medieval times, specifically the King Arthur myth.

According to JoBlo, Transformers: The Last Knight opens with Optimus Prime's journey to his home planet Cybertron, which he finds dead and which he's apparently responsible for. Of course, there's still a chance of saving Cybertron, and that is if Optimus Prime gets hold of an artifact called MacGuffin, which is of course located in none other than planet Earth. Now, this is where The Last Knight plot comes in, since the MacGuffin is reportedly related to Merlin the magician, who turns out to have received his magical powers from an early Transformer.

Some of the cast for the film, which is currently filming in Cuba, has been announced in recent weeks. They include newcomer Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and Mark Wahlberg. Most recently cast member joining the movie is veteran actor Anthony Hopkins, which to me is probably the most exciting part of this movie. It's highly likely that he'll be playing Merlin, since it would make most sense casting him as a wise and aged wizard.

It remains unknown how Mark Wahlberg and the other humans will be playing into this plot, but it seems more clear that rumors of the franchise moving its focus from humans to the robots are true.

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
