What Happened in Moon Knight Episode 1?
In Moon Knight Episode 1, The Goldfish Problem, the episode started with Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow is performing some kind of ritual that will definitely send you chills as he breaks a glass then put it in his shoes to step and wear it.
We see Steven Grant start his day getting up from bed, tied to chains. He calls his mother and tells her about his one-finned fish. He goes about his day, traveling to work, helping kids at the museum, dealing with his crappy boss who everybody hates right now, and having been invited on a date by one of his co-workers. He checks out of work and talks to a statute, Crawley.
He comes home, pours some sand on the end of his bed, tapes his door, and goes into some kind of an experiment called staying awake where he plays puzzles and reads books. One thing he reads over and over is the Ennead. Then, out of nowhere, he woke up in the middle of a field, he hears a voice telling him to go back to sleep, the subtitles say it is Khonshu talking to him.
He sees a golden hollow shell, the scarab, from his pocket and that seems coveted as mercenaries came after him. He ran into town where Arthur Harrow is and he seems to determine what the fate of a person was based on their intentions, through touching their hands and his scales dictate their fate. He says it is in Ammit’s name. When the guards tell Harrow that Grant was there, Harrow calls him a mercenary asks for the scarab.
He introduces himself and he seems to have trouble to give it to Harrow having his own body fight it. In the blink of an eye, the cult members were dead around him. He fled with a cupcake truck and an intense cliffside chase ensued, this blink-it-or-miss moment happened to Steven again and there, he jolted awake on his bed, still tied up, he laughed and he noticed that his fish has two fins right now.
He hurriedly brought the fish to a veterinarian and nothing seems to be wrong. All the wrongness continued as he realized he missed his date because it is already Sunday, losing two days of his life. He realized something was off in his apartment and he found a key and a phone with calls all from a certain Layla, one was to a Duchamp but the rest was from her. He called her and she was surprised he was okay.
When she calls him Marc, Steven was out of his mind and this time, he had a chase at his apartment building with a huge creature, he survived but jolted awake on the bus going to work. The same creature followed him to work where he found Harrow and his cult members there. Harrow did the same ritual on him, looking at his fate on whether he is a good man and what Harrow found out was that there was chaos inside of Steven.
He went about his day at work, still on inventory duties, and when he is about to go home, the creature that has been haunting him appeared and when he found himself at a dead end in the comfort room. Marc pleads to him on the mirror, asking him to let go and let him be the savior. When Steven did, Moon Knight appeared.
Moon Knight Episode 2 Spoilers, Theories, and Leaks
Surely, there are a lot of things going on but it is truly a horrifying experience for Steven who does not know anything that is happening. He goes in and out of consciousness in times of danger, Marc Spector comes out to save the day. Harrow immediately recognized him and called him a mercenary. They must have seen each other before for him to know that, right?
Khonshu is directly talking to Steven and Marc, presumably. But what are those creatures and why are they after Steven or Marc? Speculations suggest that those are Ammit’s undead monsters considering that she is the Devourer of the Dead or the Great of death with a crocodile head. Guess the answers would be revealed later in the series.
