Moon Knight: Is Arthur Harrow the Real Villain?

As introduced early on before the series arrived on Disney Plus, Arthur Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke is described as the villain of the movie. However, even in the first episode, The Goldfish Problem, it suggests that he may be just another pawn or conduit to a bigger villain, the goddess he was worshipping, Ammit, the devourer of the dead or the eater of hearts.

In the series, Harrow possessed a cane and has a tattoo of the scales of Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of justice and truth, which he uses to determine the goodness of the person and if someone isn’t he takes away its life in just a touch. However, with Ammit connected to Harrow, these souls are surely going straight to the deity for consumption.

Marvel comics know her as Ammut from 1985’s Moon Knight Vol. 2 #2, who is a creature who guards Ma’at. Ammit consumes those souls whose hearts weighed on having done something wrong. The deity goes by the name of the devourer of the dead.

While the direction of the series is not the same as that of the comics, Arthur Harrow is on something sinister as he takes on the powers of Ammit on a different level, much more than a creation of a cult. He feels as if he is a judge, one to decide who lives or dies, and with Moon Knight around to stop him from his plans, he aims to eliminate him and understand what is his deal.

Moon Knight Episode 1 is now streaming on Disney Plus. Episode 2 will arrive next week on April 6, 2022 at 3 AM, available in 4k.
