How Does Vecna Select Victims in Stranger Things Season 4 Vol.1?

Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 has been plagued with the murders of different students of Hawkins High School. It all started with Chrissy Cunningham, the head cheerleader of the school. She was struggling behind everyone’s backs with what seems to be symptoms like headache, throwing up, nightmares, and visions of a clock and a monster following her.

Chrissy even went to Eddie to buy drugs but when he was looking for it, Chrissy went into some kind of trance that Eddie cannot wake her up. She died in his trailer, she levitated and her bones cracked then her eyes exploded.

Then, there is Fred who experienced the same symptoms. He went through an accident a year prior and has been haunted by the memories of it since then. Fred went with Nancy to investigate the death of Chrissy only to get lost in the woods and share the same fate, dying in the middle of the road. Patrick, a member of the Hawkins High School basketball team with Lucas, also died like that in the middle of Lover’s Lake.

Max was supposed to be a victim. She experienced the same symptoms and she found out that she would be the next target of Vecna when they snuck in school to get to the records of Ms. Kelly, the school counselor. She realized that she shared the same symptoms with the other victims: headaches, nightmares, cold sweats, and visions.

Just in time to find out a way out were Robin and Nancy who deduced that the only reason why Victor Creel managed to survive Vecna is because there was music. When Max was almost at the brink of death, she heard her favorite song and saw an opening, a way back into her body and to Lucas, Dustin, and Steve.

See, Vecna has his way of targeting victims. All of them have something in common – they are going through some painful memories like Chrissy having some problems with her mother, Fred moving on from an accident, Patrick's wasn't shown, and Max was dealing with the death of Billy.

Vecna preys on those who are struggling with something in their lives and later on, it showed why it mattered. It all boils down to Vecna’s real identity. See, after killing a person, Vecna gets stronger and stronger and he does it by tapping into memories that makes him both sad and angry – the very same ones he uses to get into his victims’ heads.

Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Vol. 2 will be released on July 1, 2022.
