Netflix has officially renewed The Diplomat for a fifth season. Here's what fans should expect in its next chapter.
The hit political drama series recently aired its fourth season to both critical and audience success. Fans have been hoping the series will have another season, considering it ended with a massive cliffhanger surrounding the fate of Kate Wyler as the Ambassador to the United Kingdom and her career.
What to Expect in The Diplomat Season 5
Netflix recently confirmed that they have renewed The Diplomat for a fifth season, two weeks after the release of the fourth season.
So far, plot details regarding the next season are still under wraps, but it is expected to address the cliffhanger of the fourth season finale, and we can expect the same characters to return.
Showrunner Debora Cahn said of the cliffhanger, "It is very important in terms of what we’re looking at, [to consider] what you can do as a group that you can’t do as an individual, or what will make a difference as a group that won’t make a difference as an individual. Moral contagion works in both directions."
There is also no release window set yet for the fifth season, but the series has been releasing new seasons annually. A 2027 release is likely at this point if they follow the same pattern.
For now, stay tuned for more details regarding the upcoming season in the coming months.
What Is The Diplomat Season 4 About?
In the fourth season of The Diplomat, two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save.
While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.
The main cast includes Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Ato Essandoh, Ali Ahn, and Nana Mensah.
All eight episodes of the fourth season of The Diplomat are available to stream on Netflix.
