Hell's Paradise Episode 14, aka the first episode of Hell's Paradise Season 2, is officially happening.

There is no announcement about its exact release date as of writing, but the anime's entry for Season 2 on MyAnimeList is already here, and we expect many more updates to come.

Season 2 is likely to come out within the next 1-2 years, but of course, we'll update this space when there is an official announcement.

Here's What We Expect to Happen in Hell's Paradise Episode 14

The official Hell's Paradise website has released an early preview for Season 2.

For the time being, we mostly see a recap of events that have already transpired. However, we glimpse a new character, Yamada Asaemon Shugen.

Without spoiling much, let's say that the shogunate is displeased that the Asaemons and convicts are taking so long to find the elixir.

Shugen decides to take matters into his own hands, adding an extra complication to our characters' fight against the Tensens.

Here's Everything That Happened Before Hell's Paradise Episode 14

In Hell's Paradise Episode 13, Shion orders Nurugai to cut off the flowers from Senta's body before heading into a battle with Mu Dan.

When it looks like Shion might not make it, Nurugai uses a technique she learned in her village to help Sagiri regain enough stamina to join the fight.

For his part, Shion doesn't fully care about his survival. His hatred for the Tensens -- and for the fact that he failed to save Tenza and had to run -- weighs heavily upon him.

Sagiri, Yuzuriha, and Nurugai all help him in their own ways, but Shion is losing too much blood.

With Yuzuriha's support, a dying Senta uses his last bit of strength to instruct Shion where to strike Mu Dan, having figured out what a Tensen's core really is. This allows Shion to deliver the fatal blow.

The dying Tensen is impressed to see a mortal who is so peaceful with the prospect of death and admits this is a balance the Tensens could never strike.

Shion survives but is heavily wounded. Yuzuriha only has a little healing salve left and decides to use some on him, having decided that Senta is beyond help.

Instead, she tries to ease Senta's passing. His death strengthens Sagiri's resolve to fight back and ensure no one else dies.

As the party recuperates, Shion points out that the shogunate won't accept that the elixir doesn't exist.

Sagiri mentions Gabimaru's belief that the chief in his village was immortal, and that, therefore, the elixir is real, but Yuzuriha offers a hard reality check.

Being a seasoned kunoichi herself, Yuzuriha knows that many chiefs would use tricks that appear supernatural to make themselves seem unbeatable and inspire obedience.

Furthermore, she suggests that young ninjas, especially men, are brought up as soldiers, so she finds it strange that Gabimaru is married.

She theorizes that perhaps Gabimaru's wife doesn't exist, and she's simply a coping mechanism his mind has created to give him a false sense of purpose.

Elsewhere, Gabimaru finds that his overuse of Tao has taken a toll on his body, as he barely remembers who he is and finds out he has forgotten his wife's face.

If you ignore the fact that we didn't see Gabimaru very much, this was an otherwise perfect finale for Season 1.

The fight against Mu Dan was emotional and beautifully choreographed, and the twist at the end really gets you if you haven't read the Hell's Paradise manga.

We really look forward to Season 2 and all it has to offer. Meanwhile, here's where to start reading Hell's Paradise after the anime!
