Nancy Wheeler has been a staple of the show since the start and her character grew more and more as the series went by. However, for Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1, she is in grave danger as she became targeted by Vecna. Will she ever escape his curse and come back to Hawkins?
Will Nancy Escape the Upside Down in Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1?
Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 has been full of surprises from the very first episode until the last which perfectly sets up the last two runs of the show. For Nancy Wheeler, she is now vying to be the next big thing for the school paper and she is working hard to get it to have her big break in writing.
After the series of gruesome murders around town, Nancy is dedicated to look into the case in a deeper perspective and she even landed an interview with Wayne Munson, the uncle of the suspect, Eddie Munson. Wayne revealed to her that such killing is not Eddie, it’s possibly Victor Creel, someone who killed his family in the same way during the late 50s.
Nancy found out that Victor Creel might know something about the killings especially when she learned that the murders are connected to the Upside Down. Upon getting an interview with Victor Creel, Nancy and Robin learned that there is a way to escape Vecna’s curse – through music. They saved Max in time because of it.

Nancy and the others deduced that everytime Vecna claims a victim, a gate to the Upside Down opens. They found one at Lover’s Lake but when Steve was taken by it, Nancy, without a doubt, followed him, leaving Robin and Eddie with no choice but to do the same. Stuck in the Upside Down given that the only gate they knew was plagued by creatures, they went to Eddie’s trailer.
There, they got a chance to get back to the real world and Robin and Eddie managed to get through. However, Nancy was not that fortunate. When it was her turn, Vecna connected to her and she found herself at the pool where Barb died. Vecna gave her a walkthrough of his life and showed her that he was but a boy when his family transferred to Hawkins.
It was revealed that Vecna was the son of Victor Creel, Henry, who never liked how people were fake on the outside. He got musings with the Black Widows and he wanted to be a predator at the top of the food chain. He developed telekinetic abilities and used it to end his mother and sister’s life but since his abilities were new to him, he fainted when he was about to kill his father.
Nancy was left there, hanging on the edge while Steve tried to wake her up from the trance. A cliffhanger ending for her in Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1, will Nancy be able to get out of the Upside Down? Well, the answer lies into what comes next for her in Vol. 2.
Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Vol. 2 will be released on July 1, 2022.
