One interesting fact about the Narco-Saints story is that it is actually based on true events. It follows the story of a Korean drug lord, named Cho Bong-haeng, who previously worked with the infamous Colombian Cali Cartel. This cartel was founded by three brothers after separating from the drug ring of Pablo Escobar.

The show occurs in Suriname, South America, where drug syndicates run the country. One particular drug lord has nabbed the National Intelligence Service's attention.

In order to infiltrate the syndicate, the intelligence service enlists an ordinary businessman (played by Ha Jung-Woo) to help them out. But instead, he falls deep into the crime too.

Since Narco-Saints is based on a true story, it will also depend on how the real-life kingpin's tale ended. But it's highly possible that a second installation could be made. Cho Bong-haeng was arrested at an airport in São Paulo by Brazilian federal police. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2011 by the 29th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court.

After his imprisonment, Bong-haeng's current whereabouts are a mystery. A previous report by Financial News said that the 70-year-old kingpin had returned to Suriname after  being released from prison.
