Wakanda Forever Box Office Beats Black Panther’s Preview Night Record


There is no doubt that the sequel of Black Panther, or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was always set to be an emotional debut as it paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman by including a funeral scene for T’Challa.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever grossed $30.8M in 43 markets at the International Box Office (via comicbook.com) and along with its domestic previews, it garnered a running global total of $58.8M (via Deadline), beating Black Panther’s 2018 preview night record of $25.2M. Black Panther did, however, go off to become the most successful first standalone MCU film with $202M on its opening weekend, with a $1.3 Billion total worldwide.

In comparison, the first two days' results for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, according to Deadline, is 143% ahead of Black Adam, 26% above The Batman, and 16% below the original Black Panther. However, with Black Panther 2 just being released, there is a huge chance the sequel will close the gap and perhaps even surpass its predecessor.

As what our spoiler-free review, Is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Worth Watching? stated, the sequel is something that “would not have come together from an incompetent storyteller” as praise not only for making an overall fantastic sequel and paying tribute to Chadwick Boseman, but also to director Ryan Coogler’s capabilities as a filmmaker.

In fact, at the same time, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a great conclusion to Phase Four as it is now entering a new phase in the MCU, and the sequel “set up a promising future for the Wakanda-adjacent characters” in its entirety.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is arriving in theaters on November 11.
