Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally out in theaters and there is little doubt that fans are feeling very emotional about the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. So it's no surprise that the cast and crew of Black Panther 2 were also in tears even before they began working on the movie. Lupita Nyong'o has admitted that she wept after reading the script by Ryan Coogler.
Lupita Nyong'o recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about working on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and she confirmed that director Ryan Coogler walked her through the script. However, the screenplay proved too emotional and she ended up in tears.
"So he walked me through it and I remember I wept," Nyong'o said. "I wept uncontrollably actually, 'cause I was relieved."
She continued by pointing out her relief had to do with how the sequel will pay tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
"I was relieved to know that we would be honoring Chadwick, honoring T'Challa and that Nakia got this continued story that allowed her to grow,” Nyong'o said.
It's understandable why Lupita Nyong'o was hoping that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would honor Boseman and ensure that his memory is strong in the sequel. In addition to that, we're glad that Nakia gets to be more than just a love interest in the movie. With that in mind, we can't wait to see what's in store for Nakia in the film.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is directed by Ryan Coogler and will bring back Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett. They will be joined by Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Michaela Coel as Aneka, and Tenoch Huerta as Namor.
The film has finally hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
