Black Panther 2 Director Shares Ironheart's Complicated Ties With Iron Man

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler has always claimed to be a huge fan of the Marvel comic books. In fact, so much so that he immediately declared Namor should be left in his hands once the first Black Panther movie was over. Well, recently, Coogler also involves Riri Williams as Ironheart in the Black Panther sequel, and teases her complicated ties with Iron Man.

Speaking with DesiNerd, the director tries his best in avoiding leaking any spoilers as the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only releases on November 11. Careful not to drop any hints or speculations, Coogler decides to merely say we will get to meet Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams for the first time in Black Panther 2. Check out his full quote below:

“I don’t want to put any spoilers out there… I know you all haven’t seen the film yet. I know the same for your audience. But yeah, there is a connection there between her and Tony, but it isn’t… it’s a complicated connection. And Riri is a supporting character in this film, so she’s there, kind of in concert with a lot of other characters. But she does play a major role and we will get to know a little bit about how she became who she is when we meet her in this film.”

Considering that Riri Williams, Ironheart, is going to be a new addition to the MCU, it would be difficult to establish a connection between her and Tony Stark without Robert Downey Jr. making an appearance. Although the actor is open to returning for his role, Marvel Studios would have to come up with a justified reason for bringing the character back. But Marvel also has the option for a quick cameo for a flashback of Riri meeting Iron Man for the first time, which would lead her to begin creating her own version of the Iron Man suit.

Meanwhile, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premieres on November 11. Stay tuned on EpicStream for more updates on this story.
