Stranger Things: Matthew Modine Addresses Dr. Brenner's Season 4 Fate

There is little doubt that Stranger Things Season 4 saw the death of Doctor Brenner after his unexpected return in the Netflix series. But is Brenner truly dead? Matthew Modine believes that his character's fate is still ambiguous and he shares a compelling argument to prove that Brenner's story is far from over.

In Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 8, Dr. Brenner tried to prevent Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven from leaving the ICBM silo in Nevada but ended up having to let her go when the silo is attacked. Although Eleven survives, Brenner is fatally injured and is left alone in the desert.

At this point, it's hard to imagine Brenner surviving his injuries but Matthew Modine points out that his character might yet return in Stranger Things Season 5. When asked by Vulture whether he would consider Brenner dead after Episode 8, Modine quickly answered, "No, I wouldn’t," then shares his own interesting theory.

"Because I wouldn’t want him to be dead. Three things are curious to me: How did he survive the Demogorgon? How did he survive One? And when Eleven tries to use her power against Dr. Brenner after blowing three guards in the air, he unflinchingly thwarts her and says, 'You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you?' She couldn’t get it to work on him," Modine said.

"Is there something more to Brenner than meets the eye?" he continued. Modine then shared the true reason why he wants Brenner to be alive.

"I don’t want to believe it’s over, because I love the Duffers, I don’t want to believe it’s over, because I can’t wait to work with Millie again," he said.

We can't really blame Matthew Modine for wanting to return in Stranger Things Season 5. Nevertheless, anything can happen and we can't wait to see what happens in the final season.
