Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the gold standard when it comes to remaking anime. Because of this, discussions about which anime deserves the Fullmetal Alchemist remake treatment are a common sight on anime sites online.
Recently, a new discussion about this exact topic popped up on Reddit’s r/anime. And while there have been many discussions like this before, the recent thread saw lots of interesting replies.
Some are good shows that strayed far from the manga source material, similar to what happened to the first Fullmetal Alchemist.
However, there were some titles mentioned which had unsatisfying anime adaptations.
Anime Remakes and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Anime remakes are becoming more common now. Just last year, we saw the remake of the classic Urusei Yatsura, as well as the Tokyo Mew Mew New reboot of the iconic magical girl series.
However, it’s fair to say that Fullmetal Alchemist is still the best remake. While the first Fullmetal Alchemist that aired in 2003 stayed true to the source material at first, it soon ran out of manga chapters to cover.
Once it ran out of source material chapters, the first anime essentially became an original story, though many fans didn’t like the direction the series took.
Thankfully, studio Bones did the Brotherhood remake a few years after.
As Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was made after the manga was completed, it was able to adapt the entire story faithfully.
Thanks to this, the series became one of the most well-received modern shonen anime titles to date.

Soul Eater Tops Anime Fans' Remake Wishlist
As for the next anime that deserves this remake treatment, many fans on Reddit unsurprisingly said that Soul Eater should get one.
Soul Eater has a lot of similarities with Fullmetal Alchemist as the anime also suffered the same fate in that it ran out of source material to cover. Because of this, its latter parts fell off in terms of story quality.
Given that it was also Bones that made the first anime, some fans are still hoping that the studio will revisit the work and give it the adaptation it deserves.
Another series that fans want a remake of is Berserk. While there have been several adaptations, none of them got unanimous praise.
Instead, many fans still dislike both the 90s anime and the more recent 3DCG series.
Along with Berserk, other anime that were mentioned include Claymore, Tokyo Ghoul, Gantz, and The Promised Neverland.
Most of these shows are similar in that they had strong openings, with the latter seasons falling off.
For now, there’s no indication yet that any of these shows will get a proper remake.
