He selects a human, randomly, Ataru, through an algorithm go against his daughter, Lum, and the main condition for Earth to win freedom is for Ataru to be able to touch Lum's horns. While that sounds easy, well, Lum can fly.

Ataru's actions have been changed to fit into today's world while the story retains the famous trope of Takahashi -- having a love triangle and this time, it's between Ataru, Shinobu, and of course, Lum.

As Shinobu promises Ataru that she will marry him if he wins the game of tag, while playing with Lum, he kept uttering "marriage" to remind himself of what is at stake. However, Ataru's constant screams of "marriage" gave Lum the message of a proposal, thus a fiasco in the making, "Darling."
