Queen Elizabeth Used To Think Camilla Parker Bowles Was Unsuitable For Prince Charles

But Queen Elizabeth and Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship wasn’t like this before. In fact, it took years before the monarch warmed up to Prince Charles’ wife. In the new documentary to commemorate Camilla’s 75th birthday, royal expert Angela Levin shared her thoughts about the two women’s relationship.

“I think the Queen thought, ‘What on Earth is Prince Charles doing with her?' Though she was completely unsuitable, divorced, and not senior enough in their aristocratic ladder and so on,” she said (via Express).

But Prince Charles put his foot down at some point and indirectly let everyone know that Camilla would be part of his life regardless if they supported his decision or not.

Queen Elizabeth’s Perception Towards Camilla Parker Bowles Changed Because Of Her Loyalty To Prince Charles

A source also told Us Weekly that the Queen was skeptical about Camilla when she married Prince Charles because their circumstances were challenging. Prince Charles and Camilla were married to their respective spouses when they reconnected and had an affair.

“But through her dedication and loyalty to The Firm, she has more than proved to her that she has what it takes. Camilla has definitely grown on Elizabeth II, more so than ever during the pandemic. She really upped her game and willingly took a hands-on approach with additional duties,” the source said.

Queen Elizabeth and Camilla also have one-on-one meetings with each other. During their Zoom calls, they talk about the future of the British monarchy. They also meet in person regularly and usually have a cup of tea.

Prince Charles Confronted Queen Elizabeth Due To Monarch’s Treatment Of Camilla Parker Bowles

According to Daily Mail, 1998 was also a crucial time for the Queen, Prince Charles, and Camilla. After all, this was the time when the Duchess of Cornwall expressed her frustrations to Prince Charles about having to keep a low profile.

“You’re off to the theatre with friends, so why can’t I come?” Camilla reportedly asked Prince Charles.

As a result, the heir to the throne had a conversation with his mother about potentially softening her antagonism toward Camilla. But after drinking a glass or two of martini, the Queen firmly told Prince Charles that she could not grant his request.

The monarch reportedly told her son that she wouldn’t condone his adultery or forgive Camilla for not leaving Prince Charles and allowing his marriage to Princess Diana to recover. The Queen also, reportedly, referred to the Duchess of Cornwall as “that wicked woman.”

Following their heated conversation, Prince Charles phoned Camilla while he was on the verge of tears.

“In fact, the Queen’s disapproval of Camilla wasn’t limited simply to moral grounds. She was also nervous that her character, exposed in the infamous ‘Camillagate’ tapes six years earlier, was that of a shrewd mistress. Charles was distraught. As far as he was concerned, his mother had shown that she had little concern for his happiness. Carried away by a gust of tenderness towards himself, the Prince complained that neither Diana nor the Queen had ever sympathized with his needs. His mother even stopped him from moving into Clarence House, then his grandmother’s home, after his 1992 separation from Diana. Why? Because the Queen felt that he had to be reprimanded — and, in any case, the prospect of Charles entertaining Camilla in a palace shared with the 92-year-old Queen Mother was offensive to her,” royal author Tom Bower said.

Luckily, Camilla and the Queen’s relationship had already thawed. And they now get along well with each other.
