Prince Charles gets his income from multiple sources. According to reports, a huge chunk of his money comes from the Duchy of Cornwall, which funds the life and activities of whoever the Prince of Wales is. The Duchy of Cornwall reportedly holds about $1.3 billion in total assets, land, and real estate. This is also where Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton’s personal funding comes from.

Even though it is common knowledge among royal fans and royal experts alike, Prince Charles is still being accused of using taxpayers’ money to fund Camilla and Middleton’s clothes.

Is Prince Charles Using Taxpayers’ Money To Pay For Camilla Parker Bowles And Kate Middleton’s Clothes?

During a recent discussion on the Royal Round-Up, royal commentator Richard Palmer talked about Prince Charles’ spending.

“When it comes to Camilla and Kate, Charles pays for a lot of their clothing allowance from the Duchy of Cornwall. First of all, there's an argument that that's public money anyway. He [Charles] actually offsets the cost of providing that against tax. The taxpayer is paying for it, one way or another,” he said (via Express).

Since the Duchy of Cornwall is controlled by the government and subjected to Parliamentary control, this means that the taxpayers’ money is the one that Prince Charles is using for his wife and daughter-in-law.

Royal Family Accounts Show An Increase In Spending In The Past Financial Year

Meanwhile, royal accounts published last week revealed that there was an increase in taxpayer-funded spending during the recent financial year compared to the previous one.

According to Bloomberg, official royal travel amounted to $5.4 million, while housekeeping and hospitality cost $1.5 million. The cost of utilities was estimated at $3.8 million. And the funds for salaries were roughly around $28.4 million.

With the ongoing renovation of Buckingham Palace, the cost for renovations reached an all-time high at $77.7 million.

After the figures were released, campaign group Republic’s chief executive Graham Smith slammed the royal family.

“As always, while the rest of us face a cost-of-living crisis and continued squeezes on public services, the royals walk off with hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers' money. We need to put the monarchy on a proper budgetary footing, just like any other public body. We need to slash that budget down to below £10m, and only fund what's required for the functions of the head of state,” he said.

Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, admitted that Buckingham Palace is facing challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as inflation.

“Looking ahead, with the Sovereign Grant likely to be flat in the next couple of years, inflationary pressures on operating costs, and our ability to grow supplementary income likely to be constrained in the short term, we will continue to deliver against our plans and manage these impacts through our own efforts and efficiencies,” he said.

Prince Charles Focused On Helping Farmer, Duchy Of Cornwall Tenants

But amid the challenges, Prince Charles is reportedly doing his part to focus on the welfare of the Duchy of Cornwall’s tenants. In fact, the dad of two also visited farmers and discussed with them the problems that they are facing so that he could come up with workable solutions.

“He wants to hear from them, what their lived experience, so we can see what we can do to try to help them, support them along the way because to roll the question into a wider point about the living crisis, the family is extremely conscious of this - the Prince of Wales is paying very close attention to this indeed," the source said.
