Prince Charles will make history when he finally ascends the throne. Not only will he be the eldest monarch to ever be crowned; he also happens to be the longest-waiting heir to the throne.
As of late, it’s still unclear when Prince Charles will be crowned as king but there are claims that he’s starting to worry about his future role.

Prince Charles No Longer Wants To Be King
New Idea, in its Dec. 13 issue, claimed that Prince Charles doesn’t think now is the right time for him to be crowned as king even though there are whispers that Queen Elizabeth will soon abdicate.
“He’s waited so long for this moment, but the truth is, Charles is worried it’s not the right time for him to step up. All the dramas in the family, from his rift with Prince Harry to his fury at Prince Andrew and everything in between has taken a toll on him,” an unnamed source said.
The unnamed source claimed that Prince Charles can no longer hide the fact that he’s exhausted. And he believes that someone else is better suited for the top job and it is none other than his eldest son, Prince William.
Since Prince William has an ally in Kate Middleton, Prince Charles believes that they will be able to serve The Crown better than him and Camilla Parker Bowles. After all, they are much older.
Prince Charles Wants Prince William, Kate Middleton To Takeover The British Monarchy
Royal commentator Phil Dampier also claimed that Prince Charles developed a close bond with Middleton through the years. And the heir also knows that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are more popular than him.
As such, he will immediately pass on The Crown to Prince William shortly after he ascends the throne.
“Charles thinks Kate is a wonderful wife and mother and supports William totally. That’s what he appreciates about her. But Charles has also been forced to admit the fact that his beloved daughter-in-law is far more popular than he’s ever been,” Dampier said.
The royal commentator added that Prince Charles’ unpopularity was heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Charles has had to stay in the background a lot more and isolate because of his age. Kate and William have emerged stronger… and many [already] see Kate as the future queen,” he said.
Prince Charles Jealous Of Prince William, Kate Middleton
Royal author Penny Junor recently told The Daily Beast that Prince Charles feels erased because he knows that more Britons want Prince William to be king. Junor added that the heir to the throne knows all about the polls and that results show Prince William is more popular than him.
“It’s very hurtful and difficult for Charles to see all the attention on his son, and his pretty wife and his lovely children. Charles and Camilla are grandparents. They can’t compete with that. I’m sure he’s really proud of William. I’m sure he’s really proud of the incredible work he has done and the success he has made of his marriage and family. But he also doesn’t want to be erased just yet,” she said.
But even if this could be the case, Prince Charles has not expressed any desire to immediately quit his role as king after he ascends the throne. In fact, the dad of two reportedly plans to make changes to the British monarchy.

Prince Charles Wants A Slimmed-Down Monarchy
According to Business Insider, Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son wants to have a slimmed-down monarchy. The original lineup reportedly included Prince Philip before he died, as well as Prince Harry before he quit The Firm.
Following his Megxit, the new slimmed-down monarchy will now only include Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince William, Middleton, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, and Princess Anne.
