Yesterday was Marin Kitagawa’s birthday. To celebrate, cosplayer and singer Akari Akase dressed up as Marin and mimicked a figure of her to mark the occasion.

Akari Akase is a popular creator among anime fans as she’s a professional cosplayer, with many of her cosplays going viral online.

Because of this, Akase is pretty much a perfect talent to represent Marin, given their shared passions.

While she’s not the voice actress playing Marin, Akase did contribute to the anime in the form of the ending theme.

Yes, Akari Akase is the singer of the My Dress-Up Darling ending theme entitled Koi no Yukue (or Where Love Is in English).

Aside from being a cute song that matches the anime, Akase also stars in an official music video for it.

As many expected, the music video sees Akase wearing real-life versions of Marin’s various cosplay outfits.

Of course, her cosplays aren’t just limited to Marin Kitagawa. On her personal Twitter account, you’ll see lots of cosplay shoots of Akase as a range of popular anime characters.

Just recently, she had photoshoots as Nino Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets, Meguru Bachira from Blue Lock, and Yor Forger from Spy x Family, among others.

In some ways, Akase is like a real-life version of Marin, if Marin becomes a pro cosplayer. Though based on the anime’s story, it seems she is well on her way to becoming one.

What Marin can’t do yet is sing though, as Akase has proven her vocal chops.

However, it may be a surprise for some that her song for My Dress-Up Darling is her debut single.

March 5th is Marin Kitagawa's birthday, and alongside the various birthday greetings for her through official channels, Akase shared a cute image of herself as Marin.

Instead of a simple photo, Akase posed with a figure of Marin -- she even copied the figure’s pose.

As expected, this post delighted fans of both Akase and the series, so much so that it got over 160k likes in just over a day.

Aside from being a cute recreation, the figure itself is also eye-catching. This 1/7 scale figure of Marin will be released in September 2023, though pre-orders already closed a few months ago.

While you’ll be hard-pressed to get a figure of your own, you can at least look forward to the next My Dress-Up Darling anime project that’s currently in the works.
